“The villa is a unique blend of historical charm and modern comfort.”
Between Genoa and Turin, nestled in a UNESCO-listed valley, Villa Verdini offers a serene and relaxing getaway. This late 19th-century villa, built in the Italian Liberty style—Italy’s take on Art Nouveau—features ornate facades, intricate wrought ironwork, and traditional Ligurian shutters.
Restored in 2021, the villa has preserved its historic charm while upgrading for modern comfort. It now boasts seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, two living rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a spacious dining room that can seat 20 guests. The lush garden adds to its allure with a saltwater pool and a summer kitchen complete with a pizza oven, making it the perfect spot to savor the dolce vita during your stay.
A villa
with the charm of a bygone era
The Ligurian shutters, which help keep the house cool.
Passionate about design, architecture, wine, and gastronomy, Morten and Yvonne spent years searching for their dream property before discovering Villa Verdini. With its stunning views of the Alps and surrounding vineyards, its tranquil setting in a region beloved by Italophiles, the villa was an ideal find. All it needed was a thoughtful renovation to bring it back to its former splendor.
Morten and Yvonne enlisted local artisans to restore the villa’s original features: hand-painted ceilings, cement tiles, Carrara marble stairs, and intricately carved doors. The Ligurian shutters, which offer much-needed shade from the Mediterranean sun, were carefully refurbished. The entire renovation was carried out with respect for the villa’s original Liberty style—an Italian take on Art Nouveau, named after the founder of the famous London store. The result is a seamless blend of past and present, making every stay a delightful journey back in time.
A vintage villa with XXL comfort
Stepping through the villa’s threshold, you’re greeted by a space rich in character. The original chestnut wood furniture, designed in the Liberty style, has been meticulously restored and returned to its rightful place within the villa. In a thoughtful nod to sustainability and history, some of the new furniture—dining tables, beds, shelves, and bathroom fixtures—was crafted from the wood of the original roof, which had to be replaced during the renovation.
Understanding the importance of guest comfort, Morten and Yvonne added five bathrooms to the villa. Though modern, these additions blend seamlessly with the rest of the house, thanks to careful material choices like brass faucets and oak beams. The decor is further enhanced by Scandinavian lighting fixtures and furniture, which introduce a contemporary flair while maintaining harmony with the villa’s historic charm. This subtle balance of old and new gives the entire space a refined, yet inviting ambiance.

Exploring Piedmont

Nestled conveniently between Genoa and Turin—each just an hour away—Villa Verdini offers the perfect base for exploring the treasures of Piedmont while avoiding the usual tourist crowds.
A day trip to Turin, Italy’s first capital and a city brimming with art and history, is well worth your time. In Genoa, don’t miss the chance to stock up on authentic pesto alla Genovese to bring back home. Closer to the villa, you can explore the picturesque villages of Barbera, Barolo, and Barbaresco, each nestled among vineyards or perched atop scenic hills. Strolling through their narrow streets, you can immerse yourself in the Italian way of life—whether savoring an affogato on a terrace or enjoying a glass of local wine. For food lovers, the region’s culinary delights, especially truffles, are not to be missed. After indulging in the local flavors, retreat back to the villa for a refreshing dip in the pool, a game of pétanque, or a pizza-making session using the garden’s wood-fired oven.
