Jura escape: unforgettable stays in our mountain chalets

Between soaring peaks, deep forests and shimmering lakes, a holiday in the Jura is more than a simple escape; it’s a journey into pure emotion. Here, snow-capped summits touch the clouds, morning mist drifts through the valleys and the villages look as if they’ve come straight from a postcard.

Jura escape: unforgettable stays in our mountain chalets

Renting a chalet in the Jura isn’t just about finding a place to stay; it’s about reconnecting with what’s real, in a region where authenticity meets quiet elegance.

In winter, the chalets glow with the light of wood stoves while outside, the snow wraps the landscape in peaceful silence. In summer, terraces open onto endless green horizons, turquoise lakes invite you to dive in and the forests of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park beckon to those seeking calm and escape.

Each season has its own sensory magic, from crisp air and the scent of pine to the crunch of snow or leaves underfoot and the distant chime of cowbells drifting across alpine meadows.

Staying in a Jura chalet means slowing down and letting time unfold gently, to the rhythm of crackling fires and long golden evenings.

Where to find chalets in the Jura

Charming Jura chalets are tucked away in some of France’s most beautifully varied landscapes. Forget crowded resorts and ostentatious luxury; this is about discreet retreats designed with a contemporary spirit, set in unspoiled natural surroundings. Some lie in the lake region, near Chalain, Vouglans or Ilay, where turquoise waters reflect the surrounding fir trees. Others rest deep within the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park, between snowy valleys and dense evergreen forests.

Those who seek authenticity head to the mountain villages of Uxelles and Charcier, where wood and stone exist in perfect harmony. Some chalets stand just a few steps from the Hérisson waterfalls, a natural landmark of the region, while others sit alone by a lake or river, surrounded by nature and silence, with sweeping views over the valleys below.

The Jura is, above all, a breath of fresh air.

In winter, when snow blankets the forests and hills, we bundle up, pull on our down jackets and head out. Cross-country ski trails wind endlessly through frozen woods at Foncine-le-Haut, Les Rousses or Métabief, sometimes reaching all the way to the Swiss border. Alpine skiing here is unhurried and soulful; it’s about pleasure, not performance. And when the day ends, you leave your skis by the door and sink into a steaming hot tub.

When summer returns, the Jura transforms. Trails through the Haut-Jura park turn green and fragrant, waterfalls roar back to life and the air fills with the scent of moss and pine. Early mornings are for hiking along the ridgelines, picnic lunches come with sweeping views of the Alps and the descent leads past the misty Hérisson falls.

For thrill-seekers, mountain biking is the region’s best-kept secret, with wild trails winding through the Chaux forests and deep valleys. Others prefer to relax by a lake, book in hand and toes in the water. Evenings unfold on the chalet terrace, bathed in golden light as the sun slips behind the peaks. Silence settles in, broken only by the sizzle of a barbecue or a distant birdsong. Life here unfolds outdoors, with hiking, swimming, unhurried weekends and dinners under the stars. The Jura becomes a natural playground, a haven for breathing, moving and slowing down.

Which chalets to rent in the Jura ?

The Jura is full of hidden gems, from rustic hideaways to high-end design lodges, places where raw beauty meets refined comfort.

Independent chalets here are tucked into glades, lined up along rivers, perched over valleys or nestled near waterfalls.

Le Moulin des Scies Neuves – Heart of the Haut-Jura

Set between river, forest and mountain, this 18th-century former sawmill has been reborn as a soulful retreat. It sleeps up to twelve guests in warm, wood-filled interiors where every detail tells a story: limewashed walls, exposed beams, a monumental fireplace and luxurious bedding create a refined rustic charm.

Every comfort has been thoughtfully included, with a sauna, library, games room, wine cellar, sound system, outdoor fire pit, plancha grill, garden and direct access to the river for summer swims. Pets are welcome, the kitchen is fully equipped for long raclette dinners, and natural light fills the wooden interiors.

Service is equally attentive, with a personalised welcome, flexible arrival times and high-end toiletries.

Weekly rates range from €2,625 to €3,700 depending on the season and chosen options.

Here, life moves to the rhythm of the river. You cook in the solid-wood kitchen, listen to the wind in the trees and fall asleep to the crackle of the fire. This is a Jura hideaway that feels both wild and warm, a place where “cosy” finds its truest meaning.

The Boréal chalet (120 m²) accommodates six guests with three bedrooms, a mezzanine, a hammock net, a terrace with a Nordic spa and an open kitchen facing the forest.

The Canada chalet (80 m²) welcomes up to five guests in a more intimate setting, featuring a “cabin” bedroom under the eaves, an outdoor hot tub, panoramic views and a cosy living room in deep alpine blues.

Shared amenities include a garden, private parking and a communal lounge with a PS5 and panoramic reading nook. High-speed Wi-Fi, ski storage and on-demand concierge services complete the experience.

The Jura chalet spirit : where authenticity meets modern comfort

In the Jura, a chalet is more than a roof in the mountains; it’s a way of life. Between wood and stone, modern lines and rustic warmth, these homes find a perfect balance, offering contemporary comfort rooted in nature. Evenings are spent by the fireplace, meals linger over shared plates and daylight filters gently through wide glass windows.

The Jura spirit is one of simplicity, elegance and genuine warmth. Here, we disconnect, slow down and rediscover the pleasure of time standing still. Each chalet tells its own story of craftsmanship, hospitality and quiet luxury.

Whether it’s a secluded cabin in the woods or a family chalet overlooking the ridges, the essence remains the same: a peaceful escape where nature sets the rhythm and comfort comes naturally.

Why rent a chalet in the Jura ?

Because it’s a different kind of luxury, the luxury of space, silence and authenticity.

Because the Jura’s mountains offer unspoiled nature, soulful villages and genuine warmth.

Because whether it’s cross-country skiing, hiking along the ridges, swimming in the lakes or napping beneath the pines, everything here invites you to slow down.

And above all, because in a Jura chalet, time stands still just long enough to breathe, reconnect and savour what truly matters.
