In the heart of the Gargano, in the Puglia region, Casa Civita invites you to drop your bags (and your watch) in a medieval village suspended between the sea and the hills. A holiday home designed as a cosy cocoon for couples or close friends—where the simple pleasures of life are yours to rediscover.
The perfect Apulian getaway
"Casa Civita is the perfect place to rediscover the beauty of simplicity and the charm of life’s authentic pleasures."
Perched in the Civita district—the oldest part of the village of Vico del Gargano—this house is well worth the effort. You’ll reach it on foot, winding through the narrow alleys of the historic center. The car stays a little further down, and from there, it’s a gentle climb to this hideaway from another time. Inside, you’ll find a spacious living area with a sofa, kitchen, and dining table, a wooden mezzanine accessed via a spiral staircase, a double bedroom, a bathroom—and best of all, a tiny terrace with breathtaking views over the red rooftops, the sea, and, in the distance, the Tremiti Islands.
On holiday here, you cook, you unwind, you dream. The house has everything you need—from fresh flowers and crisp linens to a smart TV and coffee maker. There’s even a Marshall speaker to set the mood, whether it’s soft jazz or the soundtrack of local cicadas. You’ll also find bread, tomatoes, and all the essentials to make you feel right at home—only better.

Behind Casa Civita is Valerio Romondia, an interior architect based in Rome but deeply connected to this corner of the world. Vico is where his parents were born—and where he felt the pull to return. “I was looking for a place where I could live at my own pace, reconnect with my roots, and bring new life to the village in my own way.”
Originally created for his family and close friends, the house soon became a haven for other travelers too. “People who come here are looking for something real. They’ve come from China, the U.S., Brazil… and they’ve all told me the same thing—that they found a sense of peace here they thought they’d lost.”
"The house has a timeless feel, far removed from the frenzy of everyday life."
A gentle
renovation
The renovation was anything but flashy. No fuss—just honest, solid materials. The stone walls were restored to their original state, the shutters hand-painted, and the floors redone in raw concrete, echoing the old stables.
“I wanted to keep a light touch—let the materials, the light, and the place speak for themselves.” In the kitchen and bathroom, Apricena stone—typical of the Gargano region—blends seamlessly with wood and raw iron from the staircase. At the heart of the room, a fireplace built from four large slabs cut on-site sets the tone: simple, solid, and unmistakably local.

dolce vita

The interior of Casa Civita tells the story of a certain vision of southern Italy—the kind of home you’d find at your grandmother’s, where life was simple, good, and full of heart. Solid wood furniture sourced locally, ceramics from Grottaglie, a white ceramic sink, embroidered dish towels… And woven through it all, a few contemporary touches that subtly refresh the space. “I wanted to capture the essence of Italian homes—that raw aesthetic that brings warmth,” says Valerio.
Holidays
in Puglia
Around the house, the agenda is simple: wake up to birdsong, head to the market for fresh tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, and cross olive groves to reach the sea (just a 20-minute drive away). You might also wander into the Umbra Forest, dive into a hidden cove only accessible by boat, or stop by a nearby village to enjoy fresh pasta under a vine-covered trellis.
“Here, everything encourages you to slow down and savor the moment.” And in the evening, from the terrace, you can spot the Tremiti Islands in the distance, a glass of local wine in hand—before doing it all over again the next day.
