The sweet life in the Jura

“We designed the décor to be meticulously refined, incorporating icons of Scandinavian design — almost minimalist, yet wonderfully warm.”

Built in 2016 by Kathy and Yann Bombard — a Paris-based contemporary art gallerist and collector of mid-century Scandinavian furniture — Chalet Barma proudly stands on a sunny south-facing slope in the Manigod valley. With postcard-perfect scenery, just 800 meters from the La Clusaz slopes and 30 minutes from Lake Annecy, it’s the ideal base for a holiday of adventure or pure relaxation.

Sauna, fully equipped ski room, home cinema, and expansive sun-drenched terraces — nothing is missing to combine comfort, sport, and total relaxation. A chalet that’s as practical for skiing as it is beautiful to make you never want to leave.

A fresh take
on Alpine architecture

Chalet Barma on its hillside.

Chalet Barma on its hillside.

With the help of Studio Razavi, the owners designed a three-story home that reinterprets the traditional farmhouses of the valley: a utilitarian base, a night floor, and a lofty living level perched at the top, open to the horizon. This is no pastiche: here, spruce wood enters into dialogue with raw concrete.

‘This house embraces the standards of Alpine architecture while trading the stone base for an open concrete volume,’ noted IDEAT magazine.

The result is a chalet that meets local guidelines yet dares to adopt a contemporary style — the first of its kind in Manigod. Inside, you literally move from shadow to light, from the practical ground floor to the sun-drenched living room, an architectural ascent toward the peaks.

“Celebrating nature was, of course, the ultimate goal. This takes place as the final experience, on the top floor, which fully frames the view by extending the building’s envelope outward. To preserve the purity of the experience, the choice of materials has been reduced to a minimum.” – Alireza Razavi, Studio Razavi

Scandinavian design
meets XXL panoramas

Inside, every piece of furniture has been carefully chosen through travels and auction finds. You’ll spot iconic Spanish Chairs by Børge Mogensen, a Flag Halyard Chair by Hans Wegner, and a coffee table signed by Roger Capron.

The minimalist yet warm décor highlights the true star of the house: the view. From the living room’s picture window, it feels as if Mont Charvin itself is sitting on the sofa. As for the rear terrace, it channels the spirit of a forest cabin, almost immersed in the fir trees.

Fun-filled active
holidays

At Chalet Barma, the days follow their own rhythm. In the morning, you slip into perfectly warm boots thanks to the ski room’s automatic dryer. After that, everyone follows their passion. In winter, it might be alpine skiing on La Clusaz’s 125 km of slopes, freeriding in legendary couloirs, or cross-country skiing across the plateaus of Lac des Confins or Beauregard.

When summer arrives, the choices are endless: hiking, tackling legendary cycling passes, via ferrata, paragliding, or swimming in the turquoise waters of Lake Annecy. And when the fatigue sets in, the reward is ready: a sauna, a game of backgammon, a film in the home cinema, or a hearty dinner around the large oak table.
