At the edge of the Mediterranean, on the beach of Argentella which lends its name to it, a villa with its feet in the water and its old granite pontoon bask in the sun. An old boat shed that has retained astonishing original architectural details.

"Built in the 1850s, this boathouse was renovated by my Corsican grandfather and has been passed down through generations, finally opening its doors to the public!"

The Island of Beauty truly lives up to its name, with postcard-perfect landscapes featuring pristine waters and towering mountains covered in maquis. Amidst these terrains, a few houses remain untouched by the growing crowds of tourists that Corsica attracts. One such gem is Domaine d’Argentella, a 500m² former boathouse built in the 1850s. Acquired by a Corsican family following the wise advice of a local fisherman, ‘its original structure has been preserved, along with its granite pier,’ the owner explains.

This uniquely charming vacation rental – and we certainly don’t mind! – interacts with the remnants of the old mining concession in this part of the Crovani Bay. For instance, the small stone port of Argentella, which appears just a few meters to the left of the house. This historically rich setting emerges from the arid Mediterranean landscape, inviting you to imagine spending happy days right by the water.

A house
like a boat afloat

Domaine d’Argentella is a 500m² estate featuring eight bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, and several lounges with views of the Big Blue. These two-story spaces can accommodate up to 16 people, providing ample room and easy circulation. This spaciousness stems from the villa’s history of housing multiple boats. The former maritime and industrial use required generous volumes, and amusing traces of this past life are evident in the preserved architectural details. For instance, the loading dock has been transformed into a pier, which guests of Domaine d’Argentella can use to dive directly into the Mediterranean.

But there’s more. The old door through which ships used to enter and exit has been converted into a huge glass wall, creating a dining area with the sea as its perpetual guest. Higher up, on the balconies, the owners have added nautical touches with stainless steel railings reminiscent of a ship’s prow, and those around the pool evoke the railings of a ship.

With its granite slab pier, this former boathouse is in close proximity to the Mediterranean.

A stay between
sea and mountain

At every window, a new breathtaking view of the Mediterranean!

“Domaine d’Argentella is a house of sharing where time seems suspended, almost frozen,” confides its owner. The tranquil Mediterranean has a lot to do with this serene atmosphere. Surrounding the house, the calm sea, with the Corsican mountains diving into it, beckons tranquility. Yet, it also invites exploration: stepping out of the villa, numerous water activities and games await! You can opt for a dip in the Domaine’s pool or try your hand at fishing from the granite pier. Water skiing and paddleboarding are also available for visitors to glide on the water.

Further away, a half hour’s drive at the port of Calvi, the owners offer their nine-meter-long boat for rent to explore the must-see creeks of Piana or the Scandolla reserve. Another vacation goal: vanish into the mountains and overlook the sea. To gain altitude and face the iconic Gulf of Galéria, one can take one of the numerous hiking trails starting from the small village.

The 3 things

we love the most

The sensation of being on a boat at water level
The breathtaking view of the Mediterranean through each of the windows
