In the Perche, a 17th-century barn has been reborn as the perfect family home. Blending rustic charm with modern comfort and a welcoming spirit, La Maison des Racines invites you to slow down and savor the moment.
A Perche haven to call home
"The house has a truly unique atmosphere, shaped by its play of textures and light."
Welcome to La Maison des Racines, a home nestled in the rolling hills of the Perche, bordered by the Huisne River on one side and the Réno-Valdieu forest on the other. In this bucolic setting, a 300-year-old Perche barn, fully restored, now welcomes families, friends, teams, and anyone in search of a countryside retreat.
With seven bedrooms and just as many bathrooms, a spacious living room warmed by a wood stove, a kitchen made for generous gatherings, and 2.5 hectares of meadows, this is a home designed for living. Its owners, Annabelle and Antoine, imagined it as an open cocoon, a place that can host up to fifteen guests without anyone ever feeling crowded.
A duo
of many lives

At the heart of this project is a couple unafraid to roll up their sleeves. Annabelle has lived and breathed hospitality since childhood, born in an inn in Franche-Comté before studying at the Lausanne Hotel School. "Welcoming people, sharing, and objects that tell a story—that’s my DNA," she says. Antoine is a true jack-of-all-trades: entrepreneur, magician, musician, beekeeper. Together, as parents of five, they also created Les Nuits Perchées, forest cabins designed for lovers.
La Maison des Racines is the natural next step, a place for reunions, grounding, and transmission. "We wanted to create a lived-in house. A place of connection. A place that reflects our way of being in the world," they explain.
Heritage, atmosphere,
and terroir
La Maison des Racines doesn’t just welcome, it embraces you. Its thick walls protect, while its windows frame living paintings where sky and earth are in constant dialogue. Days here slip by with pétanque games, 38° Scandinavian baths, reading by the wood stove, walks along the GR trail, and lively foosball matches.
It is a place to reconnect, to breathe, to savor. Families come to play, friends stretch dinners late into the night with a guitar in hand, and small teams gather for joyfully studious retreats.
Yoga enthusiasts and art workshop lovers will also find a setting made for them. And for the curious, the Perche unfolds its treasures: flea markets, farmers’ markets, historic stone buildings, forests, and picturesque villages. Annabelle and Antoine are always happy to share their favorite spots: a coffee in La Perrière, dinner at Tandem in Nocé, or a bustling market in Bellême.

A story and an architecture
rooted in place
La Maison des Racines is housed in a farmhouse dating back to the 15th and 17th centuries, once the home of a farming family. In 2022, when Annabelle and Antoine came across the barn, vacant for twenty years, they saw its promise. Oak beams, thick walls, and basket-arched openings showed that the skeleton was still intact. The renovation became both a major undertaking and a human adventure.
For the rest, they called on their favorite craftsmen from the Perche. The result: a sustainable home, insulated from the inside, heated with wood chips from the nearby forest, and creatively reusing materials (old metal sheets turned into backsplashes, shutters transformed into paneling). A project carried out with patience and love.
Comfort
above all else

Inside, the style is warm and luminous. Natural materials like lime plaster, antique terracotta tiles, and raw wood blend with contemporary comforts such as underfloor heating, hotel-quality bedding, and a fully equipped kitchen. Every detail counts: vintage furniture, wall lights repurposed from old drains, farm metal sheets recycled into decorative panels. An eco-chic approach where tradition meets ingenuity.
The seven bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, have their own personality, with different views, carefully chosen objects, and unique atmospheres. Nothing is missing when it comes to amenities: piano, guitar, turntable, projector, board games, connected speaker. Add to that a guinguette corner with a Scandinavian bath, a spa, game rooms, an upcoming yoga studio, and 2.5 hectares of greenery.
