Sweet Ardèche living

Surrounded by a few old buildings that form a peaceful little hamlet, the house is perfectly secluded from view while retaining a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

At the end of an olive-lined path, the light softens, cicadas begin to sing and the golden stone warms under the sun. Welcome to La Suite Méditerranéenne, a former Ardèche farmhouse transformed into a charming holiday home. Nestled among centuries-old oaks, pines and cedars, the house overlooks a small stream and offers, to those who take the time to slow down, a simple yet precious sight: nature in full bloom.

Its architecture, typical of the region, features thick stone walls, rounded arches and terracotta roof tiles. A house rooted in its landscape, shaped by time and lovingly restored. Inside, a bright and cosy haven awaits, designed for two travellers seeking calm, authenticity and a touch of Mediterranean lifestyle without straying too far.

From old Ardèche farmhouse
to Mediterranean suite

It’s an old Ardèche farmhouse that has seen many seasons. Once home to peach orchards and a few goats and chickens, La Suite Méditerranéenne still carries in its stones the memory of a bygone rural life. After several transformations, including a bold renovation in the seventies, it was bought in 2024 by Amandine and Antoine, a couple from the northern part of the region.

“We wanted to restore the house’s original soul while turning it into an exceptional place to stay,” they explain. Returning to Ardèche after a few years in Paris, they traded the subway for cicadas and legal files for stone joints. “This is both a life project and a hospitality project. Here, we want to offer an experience that is sincere, beautiful and peaceful.”

He is passionate about historic buildings, she loves design and the art of hosting. Together, they repair, restore and reinvent without ever betraying the spirit of the house. Their ambition is clear: to offer a simple kind of luxury, made of light, nature and noble materials. The kind of luxury that isn’t shown off but quietly felt.

From the moment you step inside, the tone is set: white lime, old terracotta tiles, light wood and washed linen. The space, designed as a large open suite, exudes calm and harmony. The sleeping area, centred around a romantic queen-size canopy bed, invites daydreaming.

The sitting area continues this sense of serenity with a linen sofa and a timeworn oak coffee table. The kitchen, finished in lime in the style of Spanish fincas, evokes the South without ever slipping into cliché. The bathroom, dressed in polished concrete and brass, combines authenticity with elegance, proof that rustic charm and refinement can coexist beautifully.

Every detail, from the handcrafted lighting to the door handles, tells its own story. And to extend the pleasure, a private terrace opens onto the courtyard, shaded by a vine that fills the air with its gentle fragrance.

Ardèche,
slow life and sunshine

Around the house, there’s no shortage of things to do: hiking among castle ruins, horseback riding, swimming in the river and, for the more adventurous, canoeing or cycling. Early risers might even spot the acrobatic squirrels, the true local stars.

When it’s time to eat, great places are never far away: L’Auberge de Crussol for its enchanting setting, Le Carré d’Alethius for its Michelin-starred cuisine, or Pontet Bakery, perfect for introducing visitors to the joys of the French baguette. And don’t miss the local artisans, such as Minimalup, who give new life to forgotten furniture, a gentle reminder that in this region, everything is transformed and nothing is lost.
