Where Ardèche charm meets design
“Summer is, of course, a popular time to visit, but autumn and winter are just as enchanting. Many guests come for the Christmas markets and truffle fairs, and to stroll through the beautifully decorated streets.”
Perched above the medieval village of Saint-Montan in southern Ardèche, Maison du Soleil truly lives up to its name. Here, sunlight reigns supreme, streaming through the shutters, dancing across the whitewashed walls, glimmering on the pool, and warming the heart.
Built in 2007 by a Belgian who fell in love with the region, the house has since been lovingly renovated by its current owners, a Franco-Belgian couple whose love of simple beauty and warm hospitality shines through every detail. “We wanted a house where you instantly feel at ease,” says the owner, an architect and designer. “A place that feels both refined and relaxed, like a big sunlit smile.”
A home
at the crossroads of styles

While Maison du Soleil may first appear to be a contemporary villa, it blends harmoniously into the traditional architecture of the Ardèche. Its clean façades, wooden shutters, and gentle tones echo the stone houses that surround it. Inside, the spaces are open and airy, bathed in light that seems to have made the house its home.
Recently renovated from top to bottom, the property has regained all its radiance: new bathrooms, fresh paint, and redesigned living areas. Nothing showy, just thoughtful design centered on flow and comfort. A modern home that has preserved the soul of its hillside.
“We renovated the house with a lot of love and treasure every moment we spend here together. We’ve mixed personal touches with carefully chosen design details so that every guest feels completely at home.”
Between the Mediterranean
and Nordic design
Inside, the décor is a joyful blend of light wood, natural materials, clean lines, and a few striking design pieces that never distract from the landscape beyond. “We’ve mixed our influences—a touch of the Mediterranean, a hint of Scandinavia, and a dash of South Africa,” the owner explains.
Guests naturally gather around the large wooden dining table in the living room, the heart of the home, or pause to admire the tiled wall in the hallway, a small work of art in itself. Upstairs, the bedrooms overlook the valley and distant mountains, with a special mention for the stunning staircase wall, adorned with artisanal tiles sourced directly from Portugal.
Outdoors, the spacious eight-by-four-meter pool invites you to linger at any time of day. Beside it, the terrace with its gas barbecue becomes the lively summer hub for long evenings around the grill. Here, the art of slow living flourishes—doing things, gently and without hurry.

Holidays
in Ardèche

All around, endless lavender fields unfold. © Eva Maria Fabian
The regular guests at Maison du Soleil perfectly embody its spirit: relaxed, joyful, and fond of life’s simple pleasures. You’ll often find two small families or a group of friends here, trading the bustle of the city for the song of the cicadas. In autumn, food lovers come for the truffle markets and festive village decorations; in summer, it’s all about long apéritifs and fields of lavender that seem to stretch without end.
There’s no shortage of things to do in this region, blessed by the gods of good living. Admirers of old stone wander the medieval streets of Saint-Montan, while adventurers set off to explore the Ardèche gorges or the Saint-Marcel Cave. Meanwhile, aesthetes linger in Grignan, sip a glass of white wine in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or stroll through the Herb Garden in La Garde-Adhémar.
