"We put a lot of love into making it a place where people really can come home."
Nestled in the Cévennes, Mas Les Vignes tells the story of a Dutch couple with a passion for hospitality and travel. Their first project in the Perche region – D’Une Île, now taken over by the team of Septime restaurant in Paris – was already a resounding success. In the meantime, Sofie and Michel had embarked on a long journey, exploring (pretty much !) the whole world, before finally returning to France, much to our delight. This time, their new base is the Cévennes, a region they fell in love with and inspired their latest adventure, Les Maisons de l’Heure Vide. It was Mas Les Vignes, in this very location, that captured their hearts and convinced them to embark on this journey once again, utilizing their talent for creating spaces that are not only unique but also deeply welcoming.
Half-rustic
– half-design atmosphere
Mas les Vignes looks like a film set, with its picturesque charm and staircase terraces creating a peaceful scene amidst nature. But this didn’t happen overnight. Michel personally took on the task of reimagining one of the two houses, which was close to ruin. He then oversaw a five-month restoration project, working alongside the region’s skilled carpenters and masons. Their hard work has beautifully restored this traditional Cevennes farmhouse, which dates back to 1757. Originally built with dry stone and topped with a chestnut frame and lauze roof, the farmhouse now stands in its former glory once again.
There’s nothing flashy here, just a refined, green décor (yes, cuttings and other small plants are scattered throughout the house). The interior is embellished with several pieces carefully sourced in the area, enhancing the original materials.
A lovely cuisine in natural tones.
Elements of a rustic style, such as stoneware crockery, a farmhouse table, a massive fireplace, exposed beams, and stone, are artfully juxtaposed with designer furniture like Wouter Scheublin’s elegant Frame chairs. The color palette and natural materials create a unique sense of softness. The combination of light-toned earthenware, whitewashed walls, and wood forms a serene envelope, harmoniously echoing the surrounding nature.
A family retreat
– a haven of creativity
Le Mas des Vignes is ideally suited for family vacations across all generations. In the first house, a spacious living room leads into a charming kitchen anchored by a fireplace that stands as the heart of the home. This space radiates conviviality, inviting guests to gather for cozy evenings by the fire throughout the year. Upstairs, the warmth continues, with bedrooms that blend modern comforts with a vintage aesthetic. In the second house, the intimacy of a tiny bedroom, designed like a cozy little nest, will surely charm everyone.
A green setting where you can spend all your time.
As soon as the first rays of sunshine appear, you’ll be captivated by the setting’s beauty as you stroll along the earthenware terraces that wind around the property, offering perfect spots to sit and relax.
Down below, the natural swimming pool, a hidden gem, is the perfect place to freshen up. For the adventurous, the area around Mas Les Vignes is full of hiking trails and secret watering holes to explore.
