Beneath the Aix sun, a quintessential Provençal farmhouse is reborn. Mas Tilia welcomes travelers and dreamers into a lush haven where cicadas sing and life slows down to savor every moment.
A Provençal getaway in Aix-en-Provence
“The mas is a place of creation, experimentation, and sharing. A space that honors heritage while reimagining it.”
Born in 1984, Mas Tilia has lost none of its original charm. Carefully built by its first owners, the farmhouse blends tradition and modernity with graceful arches, generous volumes, and distinctly Provençal finishes. “This house is a tribute to Provence,” says its current owner, a film costume designer and interior decorator.
For the past four years, she and her husband have cherished the farmhouse as if it were a film character. He is a handyman with a passion for the vegetable garden. She is attentive to details, to light, and to textures. Together, they modernize with finesse, always mindful of the soul of the place. After an initial renovation featuring Mercadier polished concrete, the garden is next in line to be reimagined by landscape designer Nirvana. On the horizon: a pool house inspired by the spirit of a Moroccan riad and a solar-heated zellige shower, breathing new life into the farmhouse without ever casting shade on the old lime tree that gave the mas its name.

Mas Tilia is the kind of holiday home people dream about — simple, authentic, and full of warmth. It offers four bedrooms, including an independent studio with its own kitchen and bathroom. For sleeping arrangements, three Sofitel Queen-size beds and one convertible twin ensure top-level comfort.
The bathrooms are just as thoughtfully designed. There is a hydrotherapy tub upstairs, an Italian shower, a guest powder room on the ground floor, and a full bathroom in the studio.
In the living room, the charm works its magic. Original alcoves, a built-in dresser, and most striking of all, the arched picture window that frames the pool like a work of art. “From the lounge, I love watching the water sparkle, surrounded by greenery,” says the owner. The décor feels like a living laboratory, with handpicked ceramics, carefully chosen textiles, and a seamless flow between indoors and out.
An atmosphere
that exudes Provence
Here, there’s no schedule. Time simply stretches. “Our guests love to slow down, breathe, and savor the moment,” says the owner. The house invites a kind of chic idleness — napping beneath the lime tree, aperitifs by the pool house, yoga in the garden, a dip in the pool — all punctuated by a pastry from Maison Barone or a basket of fruit from the Halles du Goût.
When the outside world calls, Aix-en-Provence reveals its charms. Think colorful markets, the Festival of Lyric Art, and lively café terraces. Venture further, and the landscapes open wide: the Verdon Gorge, the calanques of Cassis, the lavender-scented Luberon, the flea markets of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and the Rencontres Photographiques in Arles.
And for the sporty types? There’s hiking on Sainte-Victoire, jogging through the Montaiguet, paddleboarding on the Verdon, or even golf and kitesurfing in Marseille. In short, boredom isn’t even on the table.
