Just steps from Mimbeau Beach, hidden behind lush greenery, Villa Pouquete offers a serene retreat for those dreaming of a tastefully renovated home—a sun-drenched hideaway that blends comfort, design, and the distinctive spirit of Cap Ferret.

A sun-powered cabin just steps from the ocean

The color yellow, present in every room, mirrors the sunlight that fills the house from morning until night.

With 160 square meters of space, Villa Pouquete welcomes up to eight adults into a serene, sun-drenched atmosphere. Inside, you’ll find a spacious, light-filled living area, three suites in the main house, and a fourth tucked away in a charming guest cottage.

As for the garden, it extends the “chic cabin” vibe — all greenery and laid-back lounging. And then there’s the yellow, the common thread running through the interior design, setting the tone from the moment you arrive: here, the sun doesn’t bother knocking before coming in.

A Cap Ferret love affair
at first sight

The owners, longtime lovers of Cap Ferret, once set their sights on a little Arcachon-style house that had once belonged to Marcel Aimé, the renowned French writer and playwright. The rest? A true love story — and the desire to give it a second life.

Together with architect Marie Uzeel — who also happens to be their daughter — they envisioned a bold transformation that would honor the soul of the place. “I started from the gable and redesigned everything to create a cabin true to the Ferret spirit — open to the garden, bright, and free-flowing,” she explains. Today, a fresh breeze flows through the house.

A bright and beautiful
renovation

Everything was redesigned to let the sun pour in: gone are the oppressive partitions and false ceilings. In their place, a spacious living area unfolds around the kitchen — the true heart of the home. “I love kitchens. They’re social spaces; they bring people together. I wanted a striking room, full of light,” says Marie Uzeel.

The gamble paid off, thanks to a bold yellow lava stone countertop and the ever-present zelliges, which adorn the walls with their shimmering hues.

California
dream

The interior of Villa Pouquete plays with a California-inspired palette, created in collaboration with Kelly Wearstler for Farrow & Ball. Bright yellow, soft pink, gentle blue… “I wanted a sun-drenched house, a true beach house,” explains the architect. The furnishings, designed with a vacation spirit in mind, blend natural materials with bold statement pieces like a palm-shaped light fixture and chairs by India Mahdavi.

A special mention goes to the hand-painted illustrations in the bedrooms, created by Juliainlaland. “We wanted to have fun and create a real artistic direction. Every detail matters,” says Marie Uzeel. A sun here, a palm tree there… even inside, the house exudes the essence of summer, the sea, and salt air.

Surf, market,
and beach

At Villa Pouquete, life is as much about the outdoors as it is about the indoors. In the morning, we walk to Mimbeau Beach for a refreshing stroll or a surf session in the ocean. Afterwards, we head to the Ferret market to fill our basket with fresh produce.

In the afternoon, it’s all about napping in the shade, swimming, and yoga in the garden. And in the evening? We gather around the yellow counter to chat the night away. Here, time slows down — and we make the most of it!
