Not far from La Torche beach, a wabi-Breton version of the Surf House

"When sitting at the desk facing the sea on the upper floor, it's fantastic, you have the whole beach in front of you and magnificent light."

When Séverine - the happy owner of Wabi Surf House - shares her love at first sight for Brittany, it makes you want to put on a waxed jacket and head to Finistère! It's their passion for surfing that brought this Belgian family to Penmarc’h, home to one of France's most famous surfing spots: La Torche. Their dream became a reality when they discovered this unique, quirky house: two traditional longhouses (with slate roofs, granite walls, and hydrangeas), each with two bedrooms and a bathroom, connected by a modern kitchen with a flat roof. The local architect designed the property so two groups of friends could enjoy their privacy while coming together for meals around the table, likely filled with galettes, seafood platters, and bowls of cider!

The perfect imperfection

In Japanese, wabi refers to the perfection found within imperfection, harmony, and the appreciation of simple pleasures. This philosophy becomes clear as soon as you step inside Wabi Surf House: a simple yet thoughtful decor with a few designer pieces subtly placed, creating a natural and balanced atmosphere through the use of wood and light colors.

As Severine puts it, "It doesn't need to be complicated to be beautiful!" Her inspirations for creating this soothing atmosphere? The world of surfing, Ibiza, as well as Scandinavian and Japanese zen. Mission accomplished! Amidst the sound of waves, the light, and the wood, you'll feel more at peace than ever.

Sunbathing
- anytime

Thanks to its ideal location facing the sea and its large windows, Wabi Surf House benefits from an impressive amount of light from morning to evening, in both winter and summer. The best time to enjoy it? In the morning at the small garden table, with a hot coffee, or in the evening facing the sunset.

The sea and beach are visible from every room in the house, and their presence is felt through the cries of seagulls, the salty air, and the ebb and flow of the waves. This dream location even charmed two seals, who made the beach their home for an entire winter, much to the delight of the house's occupants.

Sea, surf and sun

Let's grab a board and hit the water!

Let's grab a board and hit the water!

After gazing at the horizon from the cozy Wabi Surf House, it's time to put on a wetsuit and surf the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Both young and old will find joy among the equipment provided by the hosts, with a surf club just 100 meters away. For those who love surfing but prefer to watch from a distance with a drink in hand, the terrace offers a sweeping view of the beach and surfers. It's a perfect spot for some well-deserved quality time, while children can have a blast with various beach toys, weather permitting, or enjoy board games indoors.

The ritual of returning from the beach quickly falls into place: a nice hot shower in the garden, a little break on the Vetsak faux fur beanbag, then devouring some galettes—or a generous raclette, depending on the season—before finally slipping into the Haomy cotton voile sheets. Days like these make us wish they would never end!
