A Breton house right on the water

"The kitchen, dining room, and large living room each offer uninterrupted panoramic views of the Bay of Paimpol, its cliffs, and scattered islands."

At the tip of a peaceful peninsula protected by the Coastal Conservancy, right where the land still seems to hesitate before giving way to the sea, stands Villa Mona. Just a stone’s throw from the Bay of Paimpol, this holiday home strikes a graceful balance between old-world charm and modern comfort.

Once a 19th-century fisherman’s cottage, the house belonged to a local oyster-farming family. Over time, it was expanded, transformed — and today, it’s a place to be shared. Special mention goes to the panoramic sea view and direct beach access, which are a real treat for holidaymakers.

What makes Villa Mona truly special is its dual personality: on one side, a traditional stone façade; on the other, a contemporary extension added in the 1990s and reimagined in the 2000s.

The two are seamlessly connected thanks to Soizic, who set out to “unify the spaces and create a dialogue between the old and the new.” And it works: polished concrete floors echo the original wooden beams, while wide openings flood the home with light and frame the landscape from morning to night.

A family
story

Villa Mona is, above all, a family story. Named after Mona — the mother of Soizic’s husband — the house belongs to the Arin family, oyster farmers in the Bay of Paimpol for four generations.

After years of gradual renovations, the home was fully refreshed in 2025 to welcome new guests. Soizic, the creative force behind the transformation, reimagined every detail with comfort, understated elegance, and a deep respect for the spirit of the place.

A decor
that's vintage, uncluttered and full of personality

Villa Mona’s charm also lies in its décor — comfortable, calming, and warmly inviting without ever feeling cluttered. “I spent a lot of time hunting for pieces in Paimpol, especially at a local antiques dealer who specializes in 20th-century furniture. That’s where I found a pair of oak IKEA shelves from the 1960s, designed by Marian Grabinski,” Soizic says.

The house is also filled with vintage rattan sideboards and dressers, chairs by Landmade, soft DCW lighting that sets the mood in the evening, and custom headboards crafted by the Kok family near Lille. Here, every piece has a story, a past — and a purpose.

Beautiful Breton hydrangeas.

“When the tide’s out, you can head out onto the foreshore — go fishing on foot, or just daydream with your face to the wind, gazing at the silhouette of Île Saint-Riom: so Breton, and yet somehow so exotic…”

Oysters, beaches
and walks

But Villa Mona isn’t just beautiful — it’s also perfectly placed. “It’s a place suspended between land and sea, where you can just as easily daydream on the terrace as walk for hours along the coastal path,” says Soizic. And indeed, simple pleasures abound here.

At low tide, watch tractors dance across the tidal flats, go shellfishing, or gaze out toward Saint-Riom Island. At high tide, take a dip from the pebble beach with its smooth stones, or float peacefully from the little sandy cove just below the house.

And for those who like to mix pleasure with indulgence, the family’s own oyster bar is just steps away. For more local gems, Soizic recommends Vivres, a charming grocery shop in the heart of Paimpol, and Restaurant Rolland in nearby Plourhan.
