At the end of Deauville beach, the Villa of the Abbey of Deauville and its annex – the Cloister – are among these old ladies who survived World War II and, with their noses in the wind, proudly overlook the English Channel.

"Both in summer and winter, this family estate comprising two houses is an ideal place for sharing large meals with several guests."

From its century-and-a-half vantage point, the Abbey of Deauville has preserved the essence of the old seaside resort buildings along the Flowery Coast. And it offers the comfort of a high-end hotel complex! In this estate where two houses stand side by side, the historic brick exterior encases a modern interior design that subtly incorporates nods to Norman craftsmanship throughout. Examples include millstones ingeniously repurposed as garden tables. A historic setting with the added bonus of direct access to the beach, accommodating up to thirty people. It’s easy to envision (very) large families or groups of friends enjoying their vacations here!

A seaside estate that one never wants to leave

There are vacation homes that are self-sufficient. The Abbey of Deauville estate is one of them. These two properties – the Abbey and the Cloister – provide everything needed for an active, relaxing, or literary vacation in a setting that’s also kid-friendly. Imagine enjoying a spa-like experience, heading to the sauna in the Abbey house before dipping into the jacuzzi, cleverly placed in the main property’s veranda to create the feeling of being outdoors. For some, it’s a moment to unwind, while others might prefer a tennis match or a session in the gym. And what’s a holiday without the company of a good book? The library awaits, with classic literature lining the wooden shelves of this cozy room, where views of the sea peek through every window. And for the kids? The game room – this time in the Cloister – or the outdoor amenities – cabins and swing sets – will also fulfill their expectations equally well.

"With so many high-end amenities available, one wonders if leaving the house for an outdoor visit is still necessary..."

A two-hectare wooded park nestled between the sea and the countryside

“A park between the sea and the countryside.” That’s how Constance, the estate’s mistress, aptly describes these two hectares. With its breathtaking view of the end of Deauville beach on one side and its abundant vegetation on the other, there is something for everyone in terms of landscape. This family project, which began in the era of the owner’s great-grandparents, has seen brambles replaced with fruit trees—including the region’s characteristic apple trees—groves, and romantic lookout points. A little green gem with a surprisingly arranged layout to explore from morning till night, alone or accompanied.

The art of hospitality, Normandy style

The Abbey of Deauville is distinguished by its commitment to the art of hospitality and sharing, values deeply ingrained in the generations that have made this their secondary residence and which naturally influenced the renovation of the property to welcome vacationers from all backgrounds. Here, one can cook indoors – in the Abbey house – as well as outdoors on its terrace. To cater to wine enthusiasts, a wine cellar with a selection of meticulously chosen bottles is available to complement any meal. Constance, the hostess, recommends a small ritual to her guests to start the day on the right note: “Wake up early in the morning, and savor your coffee alone in front of the vast sea on the Abbey’s veranda. A timeless moment to enjoy by yourself.”
