A villa hidden in the Arrábida Natural Park

Just 15 minutes from the beach and 25 minutes from Faro Airport, Casa Escondida, true to its name (escondida means “hidden” in Portuguese), is tucked away in the peaceful countryside of Boliqueime. With panoramic hill views, a shaded terrace beneath a large tree, a saltwater pool with sun loungers, and fresh country air, everything here invites you to unwind and disconnect.
The house comfortably accommodates four guests with its two bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom. It also features a bright living room with a fireplace, a fully equipped open kitchen, and several terraces that let you enjoy both indoor and outdoor living.
From ruin
to retreat
Casa Escondida has not always had the charm of a summer home. At first, only a small ruin from the early twentieth century remained. In 2020, a local architect completely reimagined it with one clear intention: to preserve its authenticity while opening the house to the outdoors and the valley.
The result is a simple, airy architecture designed for open door living during the sunny months. Local materials such as stone, wood, and terracotta echo the surrounding landscape, while covered patios invite you to enjoy the gentle air at any time of day.

In interiors, we appreciate light and minimalist decor.
In terms of décor, Casa Escondida embraces a natural and effortless style. Rattan, striped cushions that evoke a beach hut, light wooden furniture, cool stone floors… everything comes together with understated elegance. The house is designed as a true holiday retreat: cozy in winter thanks to the fireplace and wonderfully airy in summer thanks to the large openings and the air conditioning.
Each bedroom offers a comfortable bed, an en-suite bathroom, and direct access to the terraces. And because life here naturally moves outdoors, you will find plenty of inviting corners to enjoy. There is a hammock for long naps, a table beneath the tree for candlelit dinners, and sun loungers by the pool for unhurried hours in the sun.
Many guests tell us that arriving here feels like coming home. According to Bert, it is the most meaningful compliment they could receive.

Staying at Casa Escondida means having one of Portugal’s most beautiful playgrounds right at your fingertips. The Algarve is best enjoyed slowly. You can kayak through sea caves, watch dolphins just offshore, wander along trails lined with blooming almond trees, or simply spend the entire day moving between the pool, a good book, and the shade of a tree. As for the beaches, choosing is the hardest part. To the east, there is Praia do Barril and the turquoise waters of the Ria Formosa. To the west, Praia da Falésia and its glowing red cliffs, or the secret coves of São Rafael where the sea feels almost private.
For food lovers, Paula and Bert gladly share their favorite addresses. Restaurante Bolitasca near the church offers unfussy Portuguese barbecue at its best. Retiro do Camponês is the place to taste Dona Teresa’s beloved Algarve dishes. Casa do Polvo is a true institution where octopus arrives in every imaginable preparation. By the sea, Izzy’s Beach Bar is perfect for a cocktail with music drifting in from the ocean, while Rei das Praias is the spot to choose for a romantic dinner as the sun sinks into the horizon.
