This Portuguese retreat, nestled among the cork oaks, is a declaration of love to the raw nature of Melides, wrapped in relaxed luxury and designed by a master hand.
The Alentejo with a Jacques Grange Twist
"It's the ideal spot to reconnect with nature and take some time out for yourself."
30 hectares of private land, nearly 900 cork oak trees, and the soothing sound of the wind. Welcome to Casa Montado, a sumptuous estate that has made its home on the Alentejo coast, near the wild and trendy beaches of Comporta and Aberta Nova. Far from the crowds, yet close enough for a dip in the Atlantic, this house offers the perfect balance: the freedom of a private home with the attentive service of a hotel.
With its 500 square meters of living space, the villa unfolds into several discrete volumes, accommodating up to 14 guests. It is the ideal place for families or groups of friends looking for an elegant getaway. The atmosphere? Modern country chic, where sophisticated design meets unpretentious authenticity, with natural materials that tell the story of Portugal.
Seven years of patience
and a bet on Alentejo

The story of Casa Montado is one of love at first sight for the Portuguese landscape. "It took us seven years to complete the project, from buying the land to laying the last stone," say the owners, a Belgian couple. But the wait was worthwhile for this project, carried out with infinite respect for the local culture.
From the outset, their commitment was total: not a single cork oak was cut down for the construction—a gesture that is both legally protected and "culturally sacred in Alentejo." Even better, they went so far as to remove invasive eucalyptus trees to replant native cork oaks, restoring the unique ecosystem. It is, in fact, this arboreal treasure that gave the house its name. In Portuguese, land covered with cork oaks is called a montado. Hence the name, Casa Montado. A small, authentic ruin, the sole witness to past history, still watches over the estate.
For the couple, this house is their own refuge, a place to "slow down and reconnect with nature." Pilates and golf retreats are organized throughout the year, combining wellness and sport, all in absolute serenity.
Where tradition
meets purity
Casa Montado is not an old, renovated property, but an entirely new project, built on pristine land. The goal? To create a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Alentejo farm while respecting the environment. The architecture, signed by the celebrated Jacques Grange, is a marvel of subtlety. It draws inspiration from traditional montados, with a touch of contemporary minimalism. The construction, managed by Nuno Carvalho, a well-known local contractor, utilizes simple, noble materials: wood, stone, and lime plaster, lending the low, whitewashed volumes an immaculate purity.
The result is a constant dialogue between the buildings and the landscape. The villa is composed of several sprawling volumes, creating total intimacy and opening onto shaded terraces. The integration is so successful that the house seamlessly blends into the surroundings, as if it had always been there. It is a feat that one can only applaud.
"The panoramic rooftop terrace is the perfect place to enjoy sunsets over the cork oak forest and dine under the stars."

The Jacques Grange style:
effortless elegance
While the architecture is a local reinterpretation, the interior decoration is a true masterclass by Jacques Grange. Known for his timeless taste, the decorator has orchestrated a refined blend where comfort meets authenticity. Inside, the tones are natural, linen fabrics abound, and handcrafted furniture is paired with contemporary design pieces and carefully selected artworks. There are no frills, just effortless elegance and discreet luxury.
This rare combination of design, authenticity, and intimacy is what makes Casa Montado so unique. Time seems to stand still here. As soon as you arrive, a profound sense of calm and serenity sets in. Proof that the magic works? Guests are loyal, with families returning every year. The owners also pay tribute to Luis and Fatima, the caretaker couple, whose "warmth and care" transform every stay into a truly special experience.
