Near Comporta, a villa designed by João Pedro Falcão de Campos

"We truly want everyone who comes to Comporta to fall in love with the place."

Just one hour and fifteen minutes south of Lisbon, between soft sands and green rice fields, Pura Comporta stretches across 330 m² at the heart of a dune garden of more than 1,200 m². Designed to comfortably accommodate up to seven guests, the villa is only a five-minute walk from the legendary Praia do Pego. “We wanted to create a place where people fall in love with Comporta just as we did,” says Joana Bastos Gomes, who designed the house with her husband João. With three en-suite bedrooms, a loft-style mezzanine, a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living room, an indoor dining area, and a large shaded terrace, every space has been created to celebrate the art of relaxation.

And since sand always finds its way back with you, a fourth bathroom, accessible from both inside and out, makes returning from the beach effortless. With its clean lines and Mediterranean soul, Pura Comporta blends quiet luxury with a genuine sense of place. “The architecture, the views, and especially the feeling of being perched on the dunes are what make this house so special,” says João. Whether you come with family or friends, it is impossible not to fall for the charm of both the house and Comporta itself.

Balance
between tradition and modernity

Designed by architect João Pedro Falcão de Campos, Pura Comporta is a contemporary tribute to the traditional houses of the Alentejo. With its gabled roofs, whitewashed walls, and Estremoz stone, it captures the region’s essence while giving it a modern twist through clean, minimalist lines that echo the surrounding landscape.

Built on a sandy hill, the house opens on one side to the rice fields and on the other to a wide sunlit deck that borders a twelve-meter heated pool. The result is a feeling of lightness, as if the architecture itself were resting gently on the dunes, surrounded by a rare and peaceful beauty.

and Portuguese soul

Inside, white sets the tone on the walls, the floors, and the ceilings, creating a luminous cocoon where every detail counts. Natural wood and traditional Portuguese textiles bring warmth, giving the space an atmosphere that feels both serene and welcoming.

Each suite has large windows framing the sunset and the plains beyond. The master bedroom even features a bathtub with a view of the horizon, quite literally a bath with a view. The kitchen, carved from a block of Estremoz marble, invites long, convivial dinners that can continue beneath the vine-draped pergola. For families, every detail has been considered, from the crib and high chair to the safety features designed for little explorers.

Slow life
and wide open spaces

Staying at Pura Comporta also means discovering a region where time seems to slow. Bike rides or barefoot walks on the sand, lunches in beach huts, endless sunsets; here, life follows a simple rhythm of ease and pleasure.

There is no shortage of things to do: horseback rides through the dunes with Cavalos na Areia, sunrise yoga among the rice fields, birdwatching or dolphin spotting in the Sado estuary, exploring the Roman ruins of Troia for a touch of history, or surfing at Pego with Imagine Surf School to master the waves.
