A chalet overlooking the Alps

"We wanted guests to feel at home the moment they walked through the door, in a chalet that’s as warm as it is practical."

In 1968, while France was celebrating the triumphs of Jean-Claude Killy, Maurice Martel — then mayor of Saint-Gervais and president of the French Ski Federation — laid the first stone of Chalet Soleil Blanc. A visionary with a hint of eccentricity, he dreamed of blending mountain spirit with a touch of California flair.

“Newport Beach in the mountains,” he liked to say. The result was an unconventional building, a bold contrast to the traditional Savoyard chalets. It quickly became a gathering spot for the ski legends of the time, from Jean-Claude Killy to the Goitschel sisters. More than just a holiday home, it became a part of French skiing history.

A distinctive architecture,
designed for light

Even today, the chalet holds onto its unique identity. Spread across a single level, its 200 m² open around a spacious 60 m² living area. Sunlight floods in through picture windows, revealing breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

“We wanted every space to feel both convivial and practical,” the owners explain. Mission accomplished. The living room is built around a cozy lounge, a fireplace for snug evenings, and a well-equipped kitchen—perfect for whipping up a tartiflette or even a burger, since that touch of American spirit still lingers. The dining area comfortably seats up to ten guests, ideal for long, lingering winter meals.

When it comes to sleep, everyone gets a taste of comfort: a cocoon-like master suite, two elegant double bedrooms, and a dormitory that sleeps four children.

Scandinavian interior
and XXL view

While Maurice Martel had California in mind, the current owners have embraced a Scandinavian spirit. Light wood, clean lines, and minimalist furniture—Nordic style that elevates the space without stealing the spotlight from the mountains.

Whether you’re in the living room, out on the terraces, or by the pool, the views are unbeatable: Mont Blanc, the Dômes de Miage, and the Aravis range all on display. “We wanted the mountains to come into the living room,” they say. Mission accomplished.

Outside, the experience continues: a heated pool (open from May to September), an Iglucraft sauna inspired by Nordic cabins, a pétanque court, a 1,500 m² garden, and a brand-new ski room. Everything you need to switch seamlessly between sport and relaxation.

Saint-Gervais:
a natural playground

A chalet is nice—but a chalet at the foot of the slopes? Even better. In winter, you can clip into your skis right outside the door. In summer, lace up your trainers or grab your backpack and hit the trails—they start just around the corner.

And when it comes to variety, the options are endless: Megève is just minutes away for a leisurely stroll, Chamonix if you’re feeling adventurous, and Les Contamines for a different perspective on the massif. And of course, the Saint-Gervais thermal baths—perfect for soaking in warm waters after a day on the trails.

Not to mention the legendary Mont Blanc Tramway, climbing all the way to the Voie Royale for a true taste of high-mountain life.
