"It's a peaceful retreat, with shops and a charming market just a stone's throw away."
In the picturesque Périgord village of Jaure, just 30 minutes from Périgueux, Pauline and Geoffrey embarked on a new adventure. Former bakers from Lorraine, they set sail for the Dordogne in 2021 after discovering a property consisting of two neighboring houses and a 70 m² barn built in 1800, ready for renovation. Today, the barn has been transformed into a charming miniature country home known as Le Figuier.
Tucked between fields and forests, the barn named Le Figuier—a nod to the fig trees gracing the front of the house—welcomes five guests (or six if the sixth is a baby), ready to explore the wonders of Périgord. Here, holidays unfold at a leisurely pace, with time spent lounging by the pool, wandering through nature, and strolling the cobbled streets of the many charming medieval towns dotting the region. A golden getaway in the Périgord Blanc!
From a Lorraine Bakery
to a Périgord Barn
Lifelong Lorrains and seasoned bakers for nearly a decade, Pauline and Geoffrey decided it was time for a fresh start after the birth of their third son. Seeking a change of pace and scenery, they set their sights on the Dordogne. It was there that the “Biscottos” stumbled upon a small hamlet nestled between forests and meadows—a love-at-first-sight moment. Joined by Pauline’s parents, they embarked on an ambitious renovation project, transforming the barn into a welcoming countryside retreat designed to make guests feel right at home.
“Our goal was to create a space where guests would feel at ease from the moment they arrived, with all the comfort they need for a truly relaxing stay,” they explain.
While their bakery days may be behind them, their passion for bread-making remains very much alive. By summer 2025, guests will have the chance to participate in bread-making workshops using the garden’s wood-fired oven—a delicious experience not to be missed!

Transformation
of a Périgord barn
Welcome to Le Figuier ! © Émilie Soler
After 15 months of dedicated renovations, Geoffrey, Pauline, and her father transformed the barn into a charming countryside retreat. They preserved the building’s original character—highlighting its beautiful stone exterior, alcoves, and exposed wooden beams—while infusing it with thoughtful, modern design. Passionate about interior decoration, Pauline envisioned “a clean, warm, and carefully curated aesthetic” that would blend old-world charm with contemporary comfort.
The result is a harmonious mix of antique family heirlooms—like a dresser passed down from Pauline’s grandmother and the crib used for their son—paired with modern, minimalist furnishings. Soft hues of green, pale pink, and beige give the interiors a soothing, natural feel, creating a serene space where every detail feels intentional and inviting.

From personal welcomes to thoughtful preparations for young travelers—like setting up a crib and baby bath before arrival—to a well-stocked pantry, activity planning, and bike rentals, Pauline and Geoffrey have mastered the art of making guests feel at home. Thanks to their attention to detail and warm hospitality, staying at Chez les Biscotto feels like being welcomed into a close friend’s home.
