A haven of peace in the heart of the Purple Périgord

“There is a timeless atmosphere in this former winemaker’s house, where family heirlooms, little curiosities, and beautiful objects—always collected with passion—come together in harmony.”

Set on the edge of a tiny village in the Purple Périgord, La Maison Vigneronne overlooks the Dordogne Valley, offering breathtaking views of the vineyards and countryside. This 19th-century village house, raised in the 1920s, has preserved its simple yet elegant architecture, so typical of winemakers’ homes.

Arnaud and his partner, the current owners, acquired the property in 2015, drawn by its timeless charm and its potential as a place for sharing and connection. “The moment you step through the little gate, it feels like coming home to the family house of our childhood,” the owner shares.

A traditional
Périgord house

La Maison Vigneronne was once part of a wine estate passed down through generations. While landscaping the garden, the owners uncovered an old stone path leading to the village château, its entrance still marked by two weathered stone pillars.

“We wanted to breathe new life into this sleeping beauty,” Arnaud explains. The 2016 renovation honoured the soul of the house, preserving its old-world charm while introducing modern comforts. Every stone and beam seems to whisper a story, while carefully collected treasures are scattered throughout the rooms like little anecdotes.

The interior of the house blends simplicity, authenticity, and those little touches that make all the difference. On the ground floor, a fully equipped kitchen opens onto a spacious living room—ideal for relaxing or sharing long conversations over a board game. “We love that our guests can curl up by the wood stove in winter or enjoy the cool, quiet living room for a well-deserved nap,” the owner says.

Upstairs, three bedrooms offer beautiful views over the garden and valley, while outside, a shaded garden covered with a vine and jasmine arbor invites guests to linger. The owners’ favorite spots? The fragrant arbor, the living room affectionately known as “Madame Irma’s room,” and the sunsets from the upstairs windows.

A timeless
atmosphere

La Maison Vigneronne exudes a mood that is both calming and joyful. It’s the kind of place where you can curl up with a good book, drift off for a nap, share a convivial meal, or stargaze from the garden. Holiday rituals unfold effortlessly—a barbecue under the arbor, a walk through the vineyards, or a moment of pure relaxation by the eco-friendly pool inspired by American water tanks.

The location is ideal for discovering the many treasures of the Périgord: wine tastings in the Bergerac or Monbazillac vineyards, scenic hikes, visits to bastides and castles, water sports on the Dordogne, or gourmet adventures through local markets. For lovers of wine, history, and nature, this is an endless playground, all wrapped in the peaceful quiet of a home perched above the village.
