Balancing historic chalet charm with contemporary comfort, Haus Engadein is a magical hideaway in the heart of South Tyrol. A refuge to slow down, breathe, and take in nature.
A next-generation farm in South Tyrol
"Guests often describe the atmosphere of the house as soothing, a place where everyday life feels distant and creativity can flourish."
With Pergola, a collection of holiday homes in South Tyrol, it is not just about renting houses, it is about living experiences. Haus Engadein is proof of that. Set at 1,395 meters in Oberinn on the Ritten, the property blends past and present with ease. Its story begins in the 17th century, when the house served as a family farm. "It was my father’s home, a household rooted in the land and in tradition," recalls Karin Innerhofer, the current hostess.
In 2022, the farmhouse was completely reimagined by architect Lukas Sölva and interior designer Claudia Unterhauser. The renovation respects the original character, complemented by a contemporary wooden barn that blends with the old without ever betraying it. Today, the property welcomes four guests, ready to explore South Tyrol.
Architecture
between roots and modernity
Haus Engadein is a true balancing act, with one foot in history and the other in contemporary design. The Stube, a traditional living room with dark wood paneling, was carefully dismantled, restored, and reinstalled as the centerpiece. Next door, a modern extension houses a staircase that also doubles as a reading nook, perfect for browsing one of the books left for guests.
"We wanted to preserve the authenticity of the place while opening the house to light and the surrounding views," explains Karin. Mission accomplished. A huge picture window now frames the Dolomites like a living painting, changing with the hours.

"Our philosophy is rooted in authentic and intuitive hospitality that goes beyond simple accommodation. We welcome guests with warmth and sincerity, building relationships of trust and respect while always safeguarding their privacy. It is a calling we have chosen."

Inside, everything strikes a balance between simplicity and warmth, brought to life by Claudia Unterhauser’s minimalist yet inviting décor.
Oak floors and furniture create a calming sense of unity, while forest-green fabrics mirror the surrounding landscape. The layout flows easily: two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious living room with a wood-burning stove, an open kitchen, a forty-square-metre terrace made for sunrise coffee, and even a sauna for cozy evenings in.
And because relaxation and productivity can go hand in hand, a workspace with two desks welcomes digital nomads looking for Alpine Wi-Fi.
The sweet life
of Tyrol
Above all, Haus Engadein is about atmosphere: calm, grounded, and inspiring. The owners describe it as a place where time slows down. Guests quickly settle into little rituals: an espresso on the terrace at sunrise, a sauna session after a hike, an impromptu aperitif around the honesty bar cart. And if the sun refuses to show, there is still plenty to enjoy. Cooking together, sampling the homemade bakery, or getting lost in a good book is more than enough to fill the day.
Additional services let guests mix and match their pleasures, from private yoga sessions and wine tastings to massages or even walks with llamas. The surroundings are a delight for nature lovers, with panoramic hikes, skiing and snowshoeing in winter, horseback rides, and year-round tastings of local cheese and honey. And just a short drive away, Bolzano awaits with its lively market and the famous Ötzi the Iceman museum.
