La Bien-Aimée

A secret address on the wild Belle-Île-en-Mer

Winking at the nickname of Belle-Île – known as ‘The Well-Named’ – the vacation rental house La Bien-Aimée combines simplicity and comfort, perched up high on its verdant valley overlooking the port of Sauzon.

A secret address on the wild Belle-Île-en-Mer

Exploring the rugged landscapes of Belle-Île is an adventure worth undertaking. Getting to “La Bien-Nommée” requires catching a boat from the Quiberon Peninsula. This return to simplicity in a cherished corner of Brittany captures the essence of leisurely living, which has always attracted the owners of La Bien-Aimée. This 100m² vacation rental house, built in the 1980s on a former family hayfield near the quaint village of Sauzon, offers a secluded retreat, hidden from public view and accessible only from the garden side. This is just one of the many reasons why staying there is so delightful. What else? Rental properties on this extraordinary island are rare, especially those with such tasteful decor. And for everything else, come and see for yourself.

An (almost) secret address
– in a completely natural setting

Window and door frames painted in a soft color: La Bien-Aimée is a quintessential Belle-Île house that discreetly blends into the Breton coastal heath. A secluded setting that invites you to slow down, where the ten people who can stay here – whether a large family or groups of friends with their children – instinctively reconnect with the surrounding nature.

On its sunny terrace, facing south and shielded from the wind, the world seems to come together over lunch, whether in the heat of summer or the chill of approaching winter. Indeed, despite common misconceptions, Brittany also offers its fair share of sunshine, even under stormy skies. This is evidenced by the petanque court, where one can enjoy a friendly game – or an endless tournament – with friends.

A carefully crafted decor
– with gentleness and simplicity

A timeless vintage decor

A timeless vintage decor

Soft, warm, comforting. Three fitting words to embody the soothing atmosphere within La Bien-Aimée. With natural-toned colors reminiscent of the Breton landscape, romantic faience pendants, and vintage linens, the owners of this single-story house offer an enveloping interior. It’s far from the cliché of the typical blue and white seaside cottage!

“We chose a timeless house here that doesn’t fit into any particular style,” explains Céline, the hostess. That’s why within these walls, you’ll find an eclectic blend of décor. The quaint charm of Antoinette Poisson patterned wallpaper, Berber rugs, and stools coexist harmoniously with typical Breton bowls, personalized with the names of the family hosts. Adorning the walls are photographs of Scotland’s rugged landscapes, a testament to a passion for vast spaces, whether they be in Brittany or elsewhere.

Belle-Île, an island one never tires of exploring
on foot or by bike

Belle-Île is a myriad of colors that change with the Breton weather. Its crystalline waters rival those of Corsica or other Mediterranean destinations. Here, swimming and shellfish harvesting take on a different flavor each day as you explore the 52 beaches along its coast. And let’s not forget its hiking trails! With 85 km of coastal paths to wander on foot, you can stop at your leisure for a picnic or simply to admire the view. Best explored by bike as well, Belle-Île is above all an island of rituals. Leaving La Bien-Aimée to fetch fresh milk or goat cheese at the Menhir farm, open twice a week. Picking blackberries during walks by the water, and savoring the kouign-amann from the Le Fournil bakery at Palais. These sweet and savory must-haves add an irresistible flavor that makes you want to come back for more.
