A white-wood cocoon by the sea—welcome to Le Bruit de la Mer, a beautifully designed architect’s home on the island of Groix. With sea views, stylish décor, and a garden made for sunset watching, it’s the perfect place to unpack, unwind, and let the sound of the waves carry you away.

House specs

An island home facing the ocean

"Here, you’ll enjoy deep tranquility and sweeping ocean views. Life flows with the rhythm of nature and the island itself."

They had always dreamed of a home on the island. She, once a city girl, fell for Groix—or rather, for this “rock,” as the locals fondly call it. Together, it took them four years to bring Le Bruit de la Mer to life: their cozy retreat overlooking the ocean. Built in 2022, the house sits on a plot with sweeping sea views, separated from the water only by a quiet fallow field and a hidden coastal path. Everything is in place for a stay steeped in peace, sea spray, and soft, shifting light.

Designed as a passive house, Le Bruit de la Mer is exceptionally well insulated, built with eco-friendly materials, and heated without a central system—just a wood stove for those cozy winter nights. The architecture is bright and open, blending effortlessly with the surrounding nature, crafted by an architect who specializes in wooden homes. It’s a space meant to be lived in both indoors and out, in harmony with the rhythm of the sea and sky.

On the ground floor, a spacious living area brings together the open kitchen, dining room, and lounge, all flowing seamlessly into the outdoors. There’s also a bedroom with its own private bathroom. Upstairs, you’ll find a second bedroom—complete, of course, with a sea view.

A stylish refuge,
between Cap Ferret and the spirit of Groisillon

This is a minimalist beach house—no seaside clichés in sight. You won’t find driftwood anchors or blue-striped curtains here. “We wanted a light, no-fuss décor that keeps the focus on the ocean. The motto: less is more.” White walls, pale wood, soft touches of blue, and wall cladding create a gentle, calming atmosphere—inspired by the homes of Cap Ferret, but with that soulful, unmistakable touch of Groix.

Every room—even the bathroom—looks straight out to sea. Read from a deck chair in the garden as sailboats drift by. Sip your coffee facing the open water. Soak in the stillness, already dreaming of your next visit to the island of Groix.

Groix,
between iodine hikes and walking on the beach

Just off the coast of Southern Brittany, a 45-minute boat ride from Lorient, lies the island of Groix—a true gem of Morbihan and part of the European Natura 2000 network, which protects its unique natural spaces. Whether you’re here for a day, a weekend, or longer, you can explore its 14.82 km² entirely at your own pace.

You don’t need to go far to enjoy yourself: the beach is just steps away, as is the coastal path. Stroll, read, grab a crêpe at Port-Tudy, take a boat ride, go for a swim, or doze off in the grass… From seasoned surfers to slow-paced hikers and lovers of Brittany’s wild side, everyone here breathes easy—and takes their time.

After exploring the area, bath time.
