Located just two hours from Paris, Le Moulin is the perfect getaway in the heart of Sarthe Perche. Renovated by Lucas and Marine, this former mill – hence its name – retains only the stream running through the garden from its past activity. Yet, its charm is fully preserved: the almost untouched stone walls maintain the authenticity of the place, even though the entire structure has been reimagined with a modern touch. The result? A skillful blend of a bucolic, flower-filled garden and an interior with a captivating and impeccable modern style. The recipe works, as the instant charm is undeniable.

The duo at the helm of this peaceful retreat has poured their passion for design into the mill’s transformation. Lucas, from Hauvette & Madani, has masterfully reimagined and organized the spaces into an exceptionally welcoming environment. Once rustic, the mill’s central area now features elegant white arches that define the space, a majestic tiled fireplace, and plush gray sofas. The atmosphere radiates calmness through a cohesive color scheme that blends shades of brown, gray, and cream across upholstery, walls, and floors.
Regarding accommodations, two bedrooms are located upstairs, with three additional spacious suites accessible from the main building via the inner courtyard, creating private retreats perfect for unwinding. These intimate spaces complement the communal living areas beautifully. Each room showcases artistic flair, mixing vintage features like retro brass faucets, bathrooms with vibrant tiles, and rustic wooden stools with modern touches, including white Kartell bedside tables and sleek steel pendant lights. These rooms are peaceful sanctuaries, seemingly outside of time, where the only soundtrack is birds chirping. Moreover, the garden and the babbling stream are merely a few steps away, adding to the tranquil experience.

In this space, every element finds its perfect place, contributing to the overall aesthetic harmony, from vintage blown glass vases and coffee tables crafted from marble and raw wood to retro armchairs reupholstered with curly fabrics. Each piece is meticulously chosen by the owners, who comb through flea markets, garage sales, and antique websites for items that complement their minimalist yet distinctly designer style. The collection includes several designer pieces, such as a desk by Patrick Gingembre and armchairs by François Azambourg. Embracing a dynamic approach to their decor, nearly every item in the house is available for purchase. This unique strategy keeps the interior fresh and evolving and supports a more circular economy within the realm of interior design.
