In the village of Gordes, Élodie and Quentin have converted an 18th-century stone sheepfold into a country house that accommodates eight guests, ready to enjoy the pool and expansive garden or explore the Alpilles.

Tucked away in the charming village of Oppède, Maison Paula is a hidden gem reimagined for unforgettable holidays with family or friends. With its lush garden, pool, and rooftop terrace overlooking the Luberon, this village house ticks all the boxes.
A Luberon hideaway
It’s not every day you find a village house with five bedrooms, a garden, a pool, a pétanque court—and a rooftop view like this!
Behind its olive-green shutters and sand-hued limewashed walls, Maison Paula serves up a sun-drenched taste of the good life. Spread across three levels, it comfortably welcomes up to ten guests (eight adults and two children) in five bright bedrooms, with four bathrooms thoughtfully placed to help keep the peace among the tribe.
The layout is all about embracing the Provençal art of living: a welcoming kitchen that opens onto the garden, a cozy dining room with a fireplace, and a living room made for curling up with a good book. And outside? A heated pool for lazy afternoons, a pétanque court for friendly matches, an alfresco dining area under the stars, and a summer kitchen made for grilling fresh veggies on the plancha. Top it all off with a rooftop terrace offering views of Oppède-le-Vieux and the Luberon…
Love at first sight
unexpectedly

Behind this charming home are Justine and Fabien. She’s an interior designer, he’s a project manager in a bank—both originally from the South of France, now living in Switzerland. “We bought our first property in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in 2021. Every time we came back to the South, we’d go house hunting, just for the fun of it. And then one day, in 2023, we stumbled upon Maison Paula… It was nothing like what we were looking for, but it was love at first sight,” Justine recalls.
This house is, in many ways, a love story too. The couple got married in Oppède in 2021. And the name ‘Maison Paula’? “That’s simply the name of our daughter.”
From a hairdressing salon
to a holiday home
Built around 1900, the house has lived many lives. “It was even a hair salon at one point!” Justine shares. When they found it, the house had been unoccupied for nearly fifteen years. Its façade was painted red, and much of its original charm had faded.
Over the course of a year, Justine and Fabien oversaw a full renovation from afar, working hand-in-hand with talented local artisans. Their guiding principle? To breathe new life into this once-forgotten village home while preserving its soul. “We wanted it to feel like a real family holiday house—the kind of place where you play pétanque with the neighbors, glass of rosé in hand. Just simple, good living.”

A décor
infused with the spirit of Provence
During the renovation, the owners took great care to preserve as much as possible: the terracotta tiles in the bedrooms, the Provençal-style ceiling in the dining room, and the fireplace, beautifully weathered by time. The kitchen, transformed from the former garage, strikes a perfect balance between old-world charm—highlighted by the lovely terracotta parquet flooring—and modern openness, thanks to a large glass door that opens onto the garden.
“I wanted a calming atmosphere—like being on holiday before the holiday even begins,” explains Justine. She still loves hunting for treasures at markets and flea fairs to perfect her Provençal-Mediterranean vibe.

The Luberon
just a stone’s throw away
Oppède is a vibrant, well-preserved village nestled at the foot of the Luberon. Maison Paula enjoys a prime location—just steps from the shops and a short bike ride from some of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Here, days are filled with colorful markets, strolls through the winding streets of Gordes or L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, sunshine baths, and well-earned naps.
Among Justine and Fabien’s favorite spots: Le Pain de Proust, famous for its melt-in-your-mouth pastries and sourdough loaves; Solelh Bistro in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, perfect for a leisurely lunch under the plane trees; and La Bastide du Mourre, ideal for a peaceful countryside stroll. And for those truly looking to unwind, a local concierge is on hand to take care of everything.
