In Luberon, an old sheepfold transformed into a stunning family farmhouse

“There’s an ambiance of an old Provençal building, with different levels, nooks, vaulted rooms, and a courtyard… It’s what captivated us immediately.”

When Élodie and Quentin first laid eyes on Mas Ohana, it was love at first sight! With its period staircase, exposed beams and stonework, cozy nooks, and expansive garden, we can see why. This 185m² building, fully renovated while retaining its 18th-century authenticity, was originally a sheepfold (with the original water troughs still in place).

Ideally located near the historic center of Gordes, it welcomes eight guests eager to explore the Luberon. Featuring four bedrooms—each with its own bathroom, spread across two buildings—a summer kitchen, a pool, and a 1200m² garden, Mas Ohana is the perfect vacation home year-round. Whether lounging by the pool in summer or curling up with a book by the stove in winter, it's an idyllic retreat.

A family home

While Mas Ohana had been partially renovated by the previous owners, Quentin and Élodie spent an entire year putting their personal touch on the finishing details and décor. Gone are the dark paint tones that once dimmed the interiors; the rooms have been brightened to let sunlight pour in. The arches, stone, and beams—aged over 300 years—have been lovingly preserved. To give the farmhouse a fresh, modern feel, the entire ground floor now features a sleek polished concrete floor, which has been highly appreciated by guests.

Thus was born Mas Ohana, a name drawn from Hawaiian culture that encompasses not just family by blood, but also close friends, neighbors, and even new acquaintances with whom one shares a special bond. It’s the perfect name for a farmhouse where joyful gatherings with family or (new) friends are always welcome!

Inside, the hues reflect the surrounding nature.

Before falling in love with the region, Élodie and Quentin traveled extensively, drawing inspiration from their journeys to decorate the farmhouse. Indonesian influences can be seen in the raw wood furniture, while the garden features a stunning concrete table sourced from Morocco. Local craftsmanship is also present, with pieces from beloved Provençal design institutions such as La Maison Pernoise, Maison Saint-Sa, Enamoura, Un Vingtième, and Colours—all of which come highly recommended for décor enthusiasts.

The meticulous attention to furnishings and decoration is evident throughout, with high-quality pieces that subtly enhance the farmhouse while showcasing its original materials. As Élodie sums it up, "It’s a property with character, restored with authenticity, blending the charm of the old with modern design and comfort." The house indeed offers top-notch comfort, including hotel-quality bedding, a dressing room, a computer for those needing to work remotely, and a laundry room. For added ease, concierge services are available during your stay, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy the experience!
