Charm and elegance in Provence

“With its sweeping views over the Alpilles and beautifully designed pool house, the swimming pool becomes the heart of the mas in summer — a place to cool off on hot days and put the world to rights with friends.”

Dating back to around 1850, Mas de la Lombarde began life as a traditional Provençal farmhouse. Today, it has been carefully restored by its owner, a songwriter and composer deeply connected to the region’s history, who has preserved the spirit of the mas while introducing modern comfort. Set in the quiet countryside around Saint Rémy de Provence, the property unfolds across a 1.5 hectare private park with a heated swimming pool and open views over the Alpilles.

The house comfortably sleeps up to twelve guests across six air-conditioned suites, making it ideal for family holidays or stays with friends. Inside, the mas offers a living room with its original period fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, and high-speed Wi-Fi. Outside, the pool house and shaded terrace naturally extend life outdoors in summer, while the organic orchard and pétanque court set the scene for relaxed, convivial moments.

Renovated in 2022 by the owners themselves, Mas de la Lombarde brings together elegance and beautifully crafted materials. A first renovation had already been led by the regional architect Mr. Bosc, whose sons Arthur and Jean Bosc later became architects in turn. The current owners continued this work with confidence and personality, carrying the project forward with a clear sense of direction. Here, tradition and modern comfort naturally coexist, shaping a place that feels both refined and welcoming.

Inside, the rooms are generous and filled with light. Vintage furniture sits alongside contemporary pieces, giving the house a style that feels chic yet easy to live in. Three spaces stand out in particular: the swimming pool with its open views over the Alpilles, the piano lounge gathered around its original fireplace, and the green boudoir-style bedroom. Together, they reflect the care given to every corner of the house and the desire to create a home that feels alive and deeply inviting.

Holidays
in Provence

Mas de la Lombarde is an ideal base for exploring the many treasures of Provence, from the villages of Les Baux de Provence, Saint Rémy de Provence, and Gordes to the region’s rich food and cultural scene. Food lovers will enjoy addresses such as Tourrel, L’Oustau de Baumanière, or L’Aile ou la Cuisse, while art and history enthusiasts can visit the Carrières de Lumières, the Pont du Gard, or the Pont d’Avignon.

Back at the property, the swimming pool quickly becomes the favorite gathering place in summer. The thoughtfully designed pool house lends itself to long conversations over a drink on warm afternoons. “We love seeing our guests relax, enjoy the calm, and really take the time to be here. The mas is made for creating memories,” says the owner. The orchard and pétanque court add a final note of conviviality, in a spirit that feels unmistakably Provençal.
