We’re in Wengi bei Frutigen, a charming alpine village where cows, forests, and streams share the spotlight. Just downhill, the Frutigen market lets you stock up on local honey, cheeses, and pastries. For long, leisurely meals, head to Adler Adelboden or Ruedihus in Kandersteg, with candlelit ambiance and wooden interiors. “‘At Christmas, guests take part in the village markets or torch-lit sledding evenings, while in autumn they attend the Alpabzug — the descent of cows decorated with flowers and bells. Everyone creates little rituals that deepen their connection both to the house and its mountain setting,’ says the owner.”

When it comes to walks, there’s plenty to wear out your shoes: Blausee, a charming little lake; Oeschinensee, the XXL version; and the wild Kiental.
