Just a stone’s throw from Les Baux-de-Provence, nestled in the sun-drenched Alpilles, Mas Gaudina is a five-bedroom holiday home with a pool and sleek, contemporary décor. It’s the kind of place made for unwinding—surrounded by olive trees and serenaded by the song of cicadas.
A Provençal farmhouse designed for blissful idling
"Mas Gaudina lives up to its name: “you gaudine there” — a Provençal expression meaning to feast, to rejoice, to have fun, and to savor life’s pleasures."
Mas Gaudina is, above all, a dream setting: 8,400 square meters of garden dotted with olive, fig, and cherry trees, a spacious sixties-style mosaic pool, and sweeping views of the Château des Baux. You’re just a ten-minute stroll from the village, a few pedal strokes from Maussane-les-Alpilles, and a stone’s throw from the Carrières de Lumières—a must-see for fans of immersive art.
The main house and its guest cottage—both built in the 1980s by the former owners using stone from the Baux quarries—carry the charm of a gracious old lady. Their architecture mirrors the timeless lines of a traditional Provençal mas: generous volumes, thick stone walls, wooden shutters, and that unmistakable southern light that dances through the rooms all day long. Provence, just like a postcard.
The sunshine
highway
When Olivier and his partner stumbled upon the house, it was love at first sight. No surprise there—he knows the Alpilles well: “My grandparents lived in Fontvieille, I spent all my summers there.”
Coming from Paris, they arrived with a sharp eye, a craving for sunshine, and (very) good ideas.
With the help of architect Alice Poirelle, they reimagined the layout: “We wanted to stay true to the spirit of the place, but we needed a breath of fresh air.”
The exterior stayed just as it was—already perfect—while the interior took a graceful leap from 1980s vintage to a more contemporary kind of elegance. Worth noting: the renovation strikes a fine balance between local craftsmanship and urban flair. Provence, yes—but with a twist.

Provence
reinvented

The pretty, uncluttered living room.
Inside, the ground floor leans into a modern vibe, with light-toned tiles and a kitchen framed by stone arches—where a custom-made bench naturally takes center stage. Upstairs, traditional terracotta tiles make a soft comeback, some delicately patterned with florals. The color palette stays grounded in nature: thyme, pine, and ochre stone, echoing the landscape outside. The subtly sun-washed yellow walls feel like the light itself has moved in.
The real showstopper? A cathedral-style living room with a monumental fireplace, anchored by a massive Roche Bobois sofa that can be rearranged “to suit the mood of the day.” In the primary bedroom, a zellige-tiled headboard, custom walk-in closet, and touches of colored glass set the tone: warm, but never predictable. And in the guesthouse? A cozy, self-contained hideaway for anyone craving a little extra privacy.
“We renovated the house as if it were our dream holiday home — and we fully intend to keep it for life.”
Holiday,
Provençal style
Here, there’s no set schedule—just one rule: enjoy. “In the morning, we love having breakfast in the sunlit kitchen. In the evening, it’s the golden light on the façade that takes our breath away.”
Guests arrive with the same mindset: swimming, reading in the shade of the fig trees, browsing local farmers’ markets, or hopping on a bike to explore nearby trails.
And when it comes to tips, there’s no shortage: gourmet spots in Maussane, wine cellars around Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, hikes in the Alpilles, a visit to the Arles Arena, or a cultural fix at the Rencontres Photographiques. Prefer to stay in? Let the garden work its quiet magic—with an apéro by the pool and the simple joy of just being together.

Around the farmhouse, cypress trees stand alongside quarries.
