This splendid beachfront villa, constructed in 1958 along Sanguinaires Road in Ajaccio, underwent a transformative renovation led by a skilled duo in 2019. A house “feet in the water” where an unparalleled sweetness of life prevails.

Nestled in the hills of Alata, Corsica, Villa Aculaghja is a modern retreat designed to host up to 13 guests in laid-back luxury. With 270 m² of living space, six bathrooms, a reflective pool, and panoramic terraces overlooking the sea, it’s a true gem tucked between the coastline and the maquis.
A villa perched high above Ajaccio
“The panoramic view over the Gulf of Ajaccio is stunning; it’s a truly peaceful place.”
Built in the late 1980s, the villa remained in the same family until 2022. Now named Aculaghja — meaning “eagle” in Corsican — it has been completely renovated by its current owners, who kept only the original roof. Ajaccio-based architect Pierre Versini led the project, blending old and new with striking finesse.
The facade, clad in local stone, preserves the soul of traditional dry-stone buildings, while inside, the villa reveals a thoughtfully reimagined layout. “The idea was to create a seamless flow between the floors with an internal staircase, which didn’t exist before,” she explains. The result is stunning — crowned by a heated infinity pool that appears to melt into the Gulf of Ajaccio.

When it comes to decor, owners and designers Catia and Jean Eric Viennet went for effortless chic. “We wanted a home that’s comfortable and inviting, using high-quality materials that are easy to live with,” they explain. Furniture from Caravane, Gervasoni, and Vincent Sheppard invites you to unwind—without compromising on elegance.
A carefully curated palette balances soothing tones with subtle pops of color that bring the space to life. The pool house, complete with a summer kitchen, sets the stage for laid-back barbecues sheltered from the Corsican sun, while loungers on the terrace practically insist you take a nap.
A holiday
between sea and maquis
Just 15 minutes from downtown Ajaccio and 20 minutes from the beaches of the Gulf of Lava, Villa Aculaghja is the perfect base for exploring Corsica. “The village of Alata is ideal for hiking enthusiasts,” the owner says with a smile, “with secret trails winding through the maquis, scented with myrtle and broom.”
For food lovers, the region is rich with restaurants serving up Corsican specialties: bold cheeses, grilled figatellu, and the famous canistrelli biscuits. And after a day of discovery, there’s nothing better than returning to the villa’s peaceful embrace—where each bedroom, complete with its own private bathroom, offers a little slice of paradise.
