Modernist design meets XXL nature in the Landes

"The villa radiates a warm, welcoming atmosphere where modernist design blends with nature. It’s a place made for gathering, sharing, and savoring life."

In the Landes, just steps from Capbreton and the Atlantic beaches, stands a residence that leaves no one indifferent: Villa René Gabriel. Built in 1972, it proudly showcases its modernist lines, generous volumes, and wide bay windows opening onto nature.

Set on the edge of a private one-hectare pond and wrapped in forest, the house seems to float in its green surroundings. "Here, we live with nature, not beside it," say the owners, the Depierrois family, who revived the villa in 2022 after nearly twenty years of abandonment.

The villa owes its name to its first owner, René Gabriel Dassé, a Dax rugby legend and devoted sportsman. A true visionary, he created a home inspired by Californian modernism, where clean lines play against the curves of the pines. After its golden age, the villa lay dormant for two decades.

“When we first visited, it had lost some of its splendor… but not its soul,” recall the Depierrois family. Their challenge was to give this 1970s icon a second life. Mission accomplished. With the help of local artisans, they restored every detail, striking a balance between heritage and contemporary comfort. The result is a refined blend of history, design, and modern living.

"The villa pays homage to its former owner, a local sports enthusiast. Along the main corridor, photographs capture iconic moments from the sporting world, celebrating this legacy and filling the house with a vibrant, inspiring spirit."

Five stars
service

With 800 m² of living space, Villa René Gabriel plays in the big league. Seven bedrooms, including five suites, a 100 m² master, and a family room, each come with their own bathroom and Japanese-style toilet.

The open-plan kitchen, designed as a stage with panoramic views of the forest, invites you to cook—or to let a private chef take over. Created by Studio Remazeilles, the interiors honor the mid-century spirit while adding the cozy touch you expect from a holiday home. “We wanted it to be beautiful, but above all a place you’d never want to leave,” says the family.

For leisure, the villa goes XXL: a heated pool overlooking the lake, a padel court, a 3x3 basketball court, a gym, a pétanque pitch, and even a TV lounge with a giant screen. More than enough to keep both kids and adults happy.

An exceptional villa,
a memorable stay

Staying at Villa René Gabriel is, above all, about reconnecting. From the arrival by the pond to the kitchen opening onto the forest and the master suite wrapped in absolute calm, every space is designed to spark relaxation and togetherness. “It’s a house that loves to be shared,” the owners say.

And when the ocean calls, the Landes beaches and their surf spots are just 20 minutes away. Renowned golf courses like Seignosse, Hossegor, and Moliets are within easy reach, while the “little Amazon of the Landes,” the Courant d’Huchet, lies only steps from the villa. Back home, you can indulge in a Michelin-starred dinner at Relais de la Poste or savor oysters by Lake Léon.
