Meet Sebastian Schoellgen, avid traveler and founder of 84 Club Chalets
From a young age, Sebastian Schoellgen has journeyed across the world, amassing memories, insider recommendations, and an encyclopedic grasp of its finest destinations. Following formative years with renowned hospitality icons including Ritz-Carlton and Rocco Forte, he channeled his expertise into founding 84 Rooms, a bespoke travel concept for discerning explorers.
His mission? To uncover hidden boutique gems, guiding travelers toward the finest rooms, the ideal season, and the unmissable experiences each destination offers. Today, through 84 Club Chalets—a handpicked selection of luxury chalets in Gstaad: Glacier, Saanen and Lion Rouge, certainly among the most beautiful chalets to rent in Switzerland—Sebastian carries the journey forward, redefining the art of travel with elegance and authenticity.

What inspired the creation of 84 Club Chalets?
Sebastian: It all stems from a personal philosophy: stepping away from the noisiest, most crowded corners of the Alps to rediscover an authentic, timeless charm. 84 Club Chalets is the expression of that vision—a collection of homes distinguished by their soul and their deep connection to their surroundings.
What was your first motivation: design, hospitality, or the desire to reinvent the rental experience?
Sebastian: It was really a mix of all three. What drives us is the ambition to create an authentic experience for the sophisticated traveler. Our aim was to combine outstanding design with true hospitality, in homes that feel like hidden treasures rather than just another rental.”

How would you describe the DNA of 84 Club Chalets?
Sebastian: At its heart, it’s about quiet elegance, a respect for local craftsmanship, and a search for experiences that feel both serene and authentic. 84 Club Chalets is a mark of quality—a carefully curated world, not just a catalogue.
How do you manage to combine luxury, comfort, and local authenticity in your chalets
Sebastian: By embracing design shaped with meticulous attention to detail. We use local materials and collaborate with talents such as architect Sophie Hamer, whose philosophy is centred on creating spaces that reflect local heritage. For us, true luxury lies in tranquility and in discreet, seamless service rather than in excess or ostentation.
“Every chalet in the collection is designed to deliver an authentic Alpine experience, with an outdoor spa, panoramic views, and bespoke concierge services for a stay that goes beyond the ordinary.”

How do you perceive the evolution of the luxury and private stays market?
Sebastian: The market is changing. Discerning travelers are turning away from standardized destinations toward places that offer authenticity, intimacy, and a real connection to their surroundings. Our four-season model, built on unique and finely crafted experiences, is our direct response to this shift.
Do you have any upcoming projects you would like to share?
Sebastian : Yes, the upcoming opening of the Petit Club Chalet, set for the second quarter of 2026, is a perfect reflection of our values. It’s an intimate yet luxurious four-bedroom chalet, fully renovated and just 20 minutes from Gstaad, designed as a true Alpine retreat. We’re also looking ahead to new chalets in Adelboden/Lenk and Verbier in 2026. Each opening takes us one step closer to our ambition: building the most exclusive chalet collection in the Alps.
