Maison Roz
A family estate turned holiday home in Southern Brittany

Behind the pale green shutters of Maison Roz — a beautiful, typically Breton stone house — lies a story as unique as it is poetic. Built in 1860 by a village doctor from Quimper to house… his mistress, the home perched on the banks of the Aven hosted their romance only briefly. The young woman left a year later, and by 1864, the house had passed into the hands of Augustin Decaux’s great-great-grandfather. It has remained in the family ever since, lovingly passed down through the generations.

Tucked away in a peaceful three-hectare woodland, the house looks as if it were lifted from the pages of a sketchbook: a delicate bow window, custom scalloped trim, softly curved granite, and an intricately shaped roofline. This 19th-century style, known as a “seaside chalet,” has stood the test of time with quiet grace. To breathe new life into the property, its current owners — who also run WUNDER, an agency specializing in hospitality and villa restoration — have masterfully blended historical charm with thoughtful design to welcome guests in comfort: indoor pool, sauna, children’s playroom…
For a dose of coastal adventure, the famous GR34 hiking trail runs right past Maison Roz, offering sea-scented walks with breathtaking views. Just a few minutes away on foot, the picturesque port of Rosbras – all stone houses and postcard-worthy charm – invites you to slow down and wander. Fancy stretching out on the sand? Head to nearby Port Manec’h beach. Craving culture and good food? Pont-Aven is just ten minutes away, with its art galleries, charming boutiques, fine dining, and winding, character-filled streets.

All around the house, the setting calls you to lace up your boots, fill your lungs with fresh air, and play fisherman for the day. The wooded park is dotted with majestic century-old trees, a wide meadow perfect for impromptu ball games, and a welcoming terrace made for long, lazy outdoor meals.
After a day of exploring, it’s all about life’s simple joys: digging for clams at low tide, a late-afternoon picnic on the beach, or a spontaneous dip in a quiet cove. And when winter rolls in? You retreat indoors, curl up by the wood stove, break out a board game, and let time slow down.
Want to extend the fun beyond the garden? The owners are happy to share their favorite spots: a hearty galette at Atipik Bilig in Morlaix, a delicious Breton brunch at La Butte Plouider, or a visit to the iconic lighthouse on the Île de Batz.
