Breathtaking views, eighteenth-century charm, and epicurean pleasures make this a place to truly recharge, one that is meant to be experienced as much as it is to be discovered.
A castle perched on its hill
"Here, you can enjoy the infinity pool, play pétanque, tennis, or padel. You can host dinners on the panoramic terrace, explore the region by bike, or visit the Brantôme market."
Perched on a hill where the Périgord stretches out like a tapestry of valleys reaching toward the Charente and the Limousin, the Château de Bagatelle appears as a haven of light and history. This eighteenth century hunting lodge, once hidden in the woods, is now one of five residences within the Domaine de Vieux Mareuil, created by Laetitia Morlat.
Recently restored and subtly modernised, the château now welcomes travellers, families, and epicureans seeking a place where tranquillity is not an option but a promise.
A story
with flair
Born at the end of the eighteenth century, the Château de Bagatelle was first a hunting lodge, discreetly tucked away in the heart of nature. Its old stones still carry a sense of timeless elegance, preserved with care through each restoration.
In 1999, Laetitia Morlat took over the estate with the desire to honour her native Périgord and share its treasures. In 2025, with the help of skilled local craftsmen, she began an ambitious transformation of the former stables to create new guest rooms, a complete spa, treatment rooms, a gym, a cinema, coworking spaces, and a reception hall.

From the garden, one can enjoy the view.

Relaxing by the pool, with the forest stretching out before you.
A bright, airy architecture with soft,
soothing décor

A charming office for remote work.
Behind its elegant and deliberately understated façade, Bagatelle reveals an interior ruled by light. The large windows let brightness pour in and frame views that shift with the seasons. The main rectangular structure leads to a small square pavilion crowned with a high roof, then opens into a beautiful orangery where the light seems to glide along the walls.
Inside, soft tones, natural materials, and contemporary pieces create a refined and modern atmosphere, a quiet blend of calm and elegance. Every room feels connected to the landscape, as if the château and its surroundings had agreed to share the same sense of clarity. The owners have a soft spot for the master bedroom, as serene as it is luminous, and for the wide windows that turn the view from each space into a living tableau.
The fine art
of living
The château now offers twelve bedrooms, nine with their own en-suite bathrooms. Two bedrooms share a bathroom, and the last includes a bunk bed that delights children and adults alike, especially those who still cherish memories of treehouse adventures.
The atmosphere is warm and filled with light, inviting guests to slow down the moment they arrive. Daily life here comes with simple pleasures that feel wonderfully indulgent. You can swim in the infinity pool, enjoy long afternoons of pétanque where friendly competition becomes a kind of art, or choose tennis and padel if you prefer to stay active. The spa brings an added layer of relaxation with its sauna, hammam, and massages that make time feel beautifully suspended.
When evening settles over the estate, dinners on the panoramic terrace take on a gentle magic as twilight blends with conversation. On request, the experience can be enhanced with wine tastings, cooking classes, open-air cinema screenings, or excursions to nearby vineyards, caves, caviar producers, and the surrounding villages.

Boredom is impossible in a property like this.
The Périgord
at its finest
Just a stone’s throw from the château, the town of Brantôme exudes irresistible charm. Its café-lined streets, restaurants, traditional markets, and abbey create a lively atmosphere where every outing becomes a small local adventure. Visitors love wandering through the town, discovering local specialties, enjoying a canoe ride or a gentle boat trip, or simply strolling along the Dronne River.
The surrounding area is also full of delectable experiences. The Villars caves are as mysterious as they are fascinating, Neuvic caviar is a gastronomic stop in its own right, and the Cognac vineyards offer a chance to explore a craft steeped in history and flavour.
