Dolce Rita in Burgundy

"The view from the hilltop village offers unforgettable sunsets."

Welcome to Maison Rita — a home like no other, tucked away just five minutes from the heart of Cluny, perfectly poised between town and country for the ultimate getaway. Just an hour from Lyon, a bit more from Annecy, two hours from Geneva, and under 20 minutes from the Mâcon-Loché train station, it’s incredibly (yes, incredibly!) easy to reach. No stress, just ease.

Rita is a name full of warmth and tenderness — a nod to the elegant yet loving Italian nonna, and a heartfelt tribute to Bilitis’s own grandmother. It’s a name that suits this proud 19th-century home perfectly — a charming blend of countryside manor and rustic retreat. A flower-lined path leads you in, like something out of a fairytale, opening onto a central courtyard, open fields, and sweeping views of nature... Welcome home — only better.

A four-handed
project

Bilitis and Guillaume are a perfectly matched duo — just like their guesthouse. She’s a fashion make-up artist, weekend baker, and seasoned vintage treasure hunter. He’s a former metal guitarist turned inspired ad man, passionate about hosting, cooking, and chatting natural wine. Together, they’d dreamed for years of creating a place of their own.

After exploring countless B&Bs, they decided to create a holiday home instead. With their architect Céline from Studio Brude and the invaluable help of Bilitis’s father — entrepreneur and unofficial site manager — they brought to life a space that reflects who they are: warm, stylish, and full of joy.

Inside Maison Rita, it’s a joyful explosion of textures, tones, and thoughtful little details that make all the difference. You’ll wander from chevron-patterned parquet and antique terracotta tiles to exposed beams and gleaming stainless steel — a perfectly balanced mix-and-match.

"We wanted raw yet soft materials, warm colors, rounded shapes… and comfy sofas," says Bilitis. The inspiration? A cocktail of ’70s California, retro films, and some of their favorite designers and brands like HK Living, Bello e Bello, and posters from Studio Topo.

Each of the five bedrooms has its own soul and story. Room One opens onto meadow views and sports a bubblegum-pink ceiling. Room Two feels like a cozy cabin hideaway. Room Three hides a secret bathroom. Room Four is bathed in what they lovingly call Clunyfornian light. And Room Five? The dreamy cloud room at the very top, where you can catch both sunrise and sunset. Or, as the owners like to say: la dolce Rita.

Things to do and see
and eat

There’s never a dull moment at Maison Rita. Whether you’re in full sun-lounger mode by the (soon-to-be-finished) pool, hopping on a bike, or firing up the barbecue, there’s something for every kind of guest. Those who’ve mastered the art of slow living can curl up with a book in the cozy office nook, while others set off for a hike — or indulge in a little extra: a massage, a private chef, or a creative workshop.

And since pleasure often starts with the palate, Bilitis and Guillaume are always eager to share their favorite foodie spots. Saturdays are for the Cluny market, followed by a stop at Le Pain sur la Table for sourdough, Polisson for melt-in-your-mouth brioche, and Le Boulon de 33 for a few perfectly chosen bottles of wine.

Craving comfort food? La Locanda — a cozy Italian gem — hits the spot. And for a tea-cookie-book break, La Librairie du Jardin Secret is just the place.
