The fourth property in the Iconic House Collection is a declaration of love to the region’s heritage, reinterpreted with the contemporary twist of interior architect Jérémie du Chaffaut, a native of Provence, in a passionate and down-to-earth approach.

A choice retreat in the heart of the Luberon

In the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, nestled among the Vaucluse mountains, Gordes is the emblem of the Provencal hilltop village, voted the most beautiful village in the world in 2023 by the American magazine Travel + Leisure. So often described, painted, photographed, admired, fantasized… the village owes its aura to the illustrious artists who once revealed it and its ability to embody the soul of the Provence we love. This essence of Provence is dear to the hearts of the brothers who co-founded Iconic House, Thibaud Elzière and Robin Michel, originally from a small village in the Alpilles.

A heartfelt ode to the region

Leveraging its unparalleled location, distinctive decor, and extraordinary amenities, the founders of Iconic House have crafted what can only be described as a dream bastide, embodying the ultimate fantasy of a Provencal residence. It’s a place for enchanted, sun-drenched interludes. The adjacent lavender field, oak and olive trees, radiant light, exquisite materials, vibrant colors, tranquil ambiance, and breathtaking view all come together to set a picturesque scene. It’s like stepping into a postcard that’s more vivid than life itself, artfully blurring the lines between dream and reality.

“The property embodies the quintessence of Provence in its purest vision. The choice of materials and colors, the work with craftsmen, the promotion of local know-how… the project delivers a singular interpretation of the Provencal art of living. A real place to live,” says Thibaud Elzière.

As with all properties in the Iconic House Collection, Les Hauts de Gordes is available for exclusive rental, encompassing seven bedrooms discreetly distributed across three buildings. Among these is a family suite complete with a children’s dormitory, conveniently situated next to “Kids Paradise,” a playground nestled under oak trees. “Each room is unique, bright, warm, and crafted to make you feel at home,” states Robin Michel.

The kitchen, which opens onto the dining room, features a host of colorful glazed tiles – originally from icebox vats – redesigned by Jérémie du Chaffaut, with particular attention to color. The tiles exude a typically Southern conviviality.

The main house features two distinct lounges. One is nestled under a glass roof, offering an open connection to nature. The other, cozy with its library and fireplace, is set within an impressive concrete tree designed by Julien Beaucourt. Outside, the vast swimming pool stretches over two levels, providing stunning views of Gordes and the Luberon massif. Slightly elevated, a pétanque court seamlessly integrates into a Provencal garden arranged in terraces. And for a delightful surprise at nightfall, an outdoor cinema can be set up on demand.

The outdoor kitchen features a wall of boxwood curtains handcrafted by the last remaining Provencal workshop. A place for aperitifs and festive evenings. Tucked away at the bottom of the estate, along a path scented with wild thyme, lies a special spot for relaxation: an original dry-stone Borie transformed into a serene space for rest and meditation, complete with candles and sound bowls. Adding to the allure, the wellness area, with its fully-equipped gym and steam room, will leave a lasting impression on guests.

Gordes, Land of Artists

Gordes, renowned not only for its stunning vistas but also for the many artists who have highlighted its beauty over the years, lends a solid creative impetus to the project. True to the ethos of Iconic House, artistic curation is central to this endeavor, resonating with the property’s illusory yet very tangible beauty.

Illusion, movement, perception, representation… these concepts are dear to artists, particularly those of the optical and kinetic arts – of which Victor Vasarely, who fell in love with Gordes, is one of the leading figures – and guide the founders of Iconic House in the artistic signature of the place. Accompanied by Joséphine Fossey, curator and head of the eponymous creative laboratory, they are committed to building a genuine artistic journey inside and out—a journey punctuated by some forty works, some monumental and commissioned especially for the project.

At Les Hauts de Gordes, as at its other exceptional properties, Iconic House invites you to live each moment intensely, to inhabit time in all its dimensions of pleasure, here and now.
