In the Baie de Somme, just steps from the cliffs, this former post office turned stylish holiday home is the perfect spot for a peaceful escape. Think Wabi Sabi interiors, slow mornings, sea views, and the soothing soundtrack of seagulls.
The discreet charm of Ault
"Just two hours from Paris or Lille, Ault arguably offers the most breathtaking views over the Baie de Somme. With its soaring cliffs, salt marshes, endless white-sand beaches and lush forests, it’s an endless playground for nature lovers."
Welcome to Maison Cachée—a not-so-secret hideaway tucked inside one of Ault’s most iconic buildings: the former Post, Telegraph, and Telephone office, now lovingly transformed into a holiday home by a passionate trio: Naomi, Tom, and Corinne.
Here, you’ll find characterful architecture, calming interiors, and an atmosphere as soothing as a post-beach nap. Best of all? A front-row view of Saint-Pierre Church—a 13th-century gem listed as a Historic Monument. A truly one-of-a-kind escape, just two hours from Paris or Lille.
The story
of Maison Cachée
Before it welcomed happy families, couples, and hikers, Maison Cachée was Ault’s bustling hub of communication—where mail was sorted, telegrams sent, and postal workers once lived. No wonder every corner of the building tells a story: La Dépendance, now a garden studio, was once the archive room; Le Loft, bright and spacious, used to buzz with telegrams; and the former staff quarters have become cosy bedrooms and snug little apartments.
Renovated by architect Tom Rambaud—a true lover of historic buildings—the house has been reimagined with great care. The goal? Preserve the soul, enhance the charm. Original floors were sanded back to life, decorative timbres and mouldings lovingly restored—all while opening up the space with a peaceful inner garden and a natural, flowing layout.

"We have taken care to retain the original layout and wherever possible, restore all the authentic details. These elements are combined with bespoke finishes and top-of-the-range amenities to offer our guests a welcoming and comfortable stay."

The design inspiration? Japanese Wabi Sabi—finding beauty in imperfection, simplicity, natural materials, and soft tones—with a dash of Nordic flair. The result is a calm, airy space with no fuss—just real character. Furniture is a mix of vintage finds and custom-made pieces, materials breathe, and every room has its own distinct vibe.
We love sinking into the sofa after a blustery walk, tea in hand and book at the ready. The kitchens are fully kitted out, the bathrooms are bright, with views over rooftops or the garden. It feels like home—just with five-star bedding.
Sea, cliffs
and seagulls
You can’t talk about Maison Cachée without mentioning its playground: the wild, stunning landscapes of the Baie de Somme. Just a two-minute stroll away, Ault’s cliffs, sandy beaches, and coastal paths are made for picnics, kite-flying, or lazy post-lunch wanders.
The vibe? Laid-back and family-friendly. We play cards in the garden to the sound of seagulls, collect pebbles on the beach, then head to Fenêtres sur Cour or Vents et Marées for dinner. There’s time to browse the Ault market, chat with local makers, and soak up the slow rhythm of the place.
