A refuge in the Baie de Somme

"Staying at Maison Maa is a chance to explore the old town, enjoy the bay, go cycling, ride the historic train, and experience a host of activities that free the mind and body from the bustle of city life."

Nestled in a natural setting less than three hours from Paris, Maison Maa consists of a traditional Picardy farmhouse from the early 20th century and its former caretaker’s house, together accommodating ten to twelve guests. Once home to two farming families who lived in tune with the seasons and harvests, the property now belongs to a young couple, Jenny and Tristan.

Their rustic architecture—with thick walls and a welcoming courtyard—tells a story the owners were keen to preserve, while breathing new life into the space. These are homes full of character, where every beam holds a tale and every stone has a past. The perfect place to discover the Baie de Somme—still a well-kept secret among travelers, yet full of surprises.

Artisans
of the revival

In 2023, Jenny and Tristan—both passionate about design and travel—breathed new life into these two storied homes. 'We handpicked every object and piece of furniture,' says Tristan. 'We wanted to create a place where authenticity meets contemporary comfort, without ever compromising what made these houses so special.'

The renovation, envisioned as a bridge between Picardy tradition and a more urban aesthetic, focused in particular on the caretaker’s house, now transformed into a bright, modern cocoon. The project, named 'Maa'—a nod to the owners’ grandmothers—is a heartfelt invitation to reconnect, between past and present, China and Picardy.

From here
and beyond

Inside, you’re immediately wrapped in a warm and eclectic atmosphere. With vintage pieces sourced from around the world and touches of contemporary design, Maison Maa feels like a true cabinet of curiosities—perfect for wandering and wondering. 'Our goal? For everyone to feel at home, while stepping into a world that’s anything but ordinary.'

The spacious kitchen, with its old-world charm, invites guests to gather and cook up hearty feasts, while the living room—with its stunning view over the bay and the passing historic train—is the ideal spot for a game of chess or a good book.

"Maison Maa is a place to soak in the beauty of the region, with its close proximity to the bay and the sea."

The Baie de Somme
as a playground

Maison Maa also offers the promise of full immersion in a region brimming with charm. 'We always encourage our guests to explore Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, just a ten-minute walk along the canal,' the owners explain.

A stroll through the market, a sweet stop at Waterloo—the must-visit local bakery—and dinner at Le Schorre are perfect ways to start the adventure. There’s no shortage of things to do: crossing the bay with a passionate guide, riding the historic train, canoeing, or seal-watching by boat. In summer, the beach—just a ten-minute drive from the house—is ideal for sunbathing. Here, boredom simply isn’t an option, especially for lovers of the great outdoors!
