Nestled in a lush green setting overlooking the Aven, Maison Roz is a former family home lovingly transformed by a pair of architects into a serene, light-filled, and inspiring retreat.
A family home reimagined in Southern Brittany
"The house exudes a chic coastal spirit and pays tribute to holidays in Brittany, to local craftsmanship and savoir-faire, and to the raw beauty of its shoreline."
Behind the soft green shutters of Maison Roz — a beautiful, quintessentially Breton holiday home — lies a charming secret. Built in 1860 by a doctor from Quimper as a love nest for his mistress, the seaside chalet didn’t witness a lasting romance. The lady left just a year after moving in, and by 1864, the house had been purchased by the great-great-grandfather of Augustin Decaux. Since then, it has remained in the same family, passed down through the generations.
Perched above the Aven River, in a peaceful three-hectare woodland, the house looks like something from a carefully composed daydream: a romantic bow window, rounded granite quoins, custom scalloped trim, a delicately gabled roof... This 19th-century style, known as a chalet de mer, has stood the test of time with quiet elegance. When the moment came to breathe new life into it, the new owners — co-founders of WUNDER, an architecture and design studio specializing in hospitality and villa renovations — brought no shortage of inspired ideas.

Élodie Dumas and Augustin Decaux, founders of Studio Wunder, have been honing their craft — and their trowels — in boutique hospitality and the renovation of distinctive homes since 2008. In other words, they know what they’re doing — and, even more importantly, what they love. With Maison Roz, they’ve delivered a deeply personal project: restoring a cherished family home to its original charm while infusing it with a contemporary way of life.
It was a true labor of love. After decades without meaningful updates (the last major renovation dated back to 1960), the house needed far more than a fresh coat of paint. Everything was reimagined with one guiding principle: preserve the soul, reinvent the comfort, and let past and present speak to each other. The result is a thoughtful, joyful renovation — one that respects the original lines while adding everything needed to make the holidays sing: a convivial kitchen, a sun-catching terrace, a discreet sauna, and a bright indoor plunge pool.
"The view over the Aven and the surrounding woods is breathtaking — you could spend hours just taking it all in."

A tribute
to Brittany
Inside Maison Roz, every detail has been chosen with near-artisanal care. The walls feature carefully sourced artworks, like a lithograph by Henri Rivière gazing out toward the Aven. The furniture tells stories of time passed: a table bearing the marks of lively dinners, an armchair softened by long, restful naps. All of it exists in quiet dialogue with more contemporary lines, striking a subtle balance between tradition and modernity.
We’re smitten with the Dedar fabric banquettes, Antoinette Poisson wallpapers, Normandy Ceramics earthenware, and lighting by Léa Zeroil, François Bazin, and Charlotte Perriand. The colour palette feels pulled straight from the landscape: ochre, sand, tawny hues, mineral blues — a tribute to Brittany’s light, reflected in mirrors thoughtfully placed throughout the space.

Just below Maison Roz, the GR34 trail warmly welcomes hikers for breezy seaside strolls. A stone’s throw away, the postcard-perfect port of Rosbras invites you to wander among its charming stone houses. Craving the beach? Head to Port Manec’h. In the mood for art and indulgence? Pont-Aven is just ten minutes away, with its galleries, great restaurants, and countless hidden gems.
Maison Roz is one of those places where you truly reconnect — where memories are made over long lunches, sandy feet, and the smell of sea spray and salted butter. It’s not a show home. It’s a real one. Made to be lived in, shared, and returned to.
