Experience authentic Puglia: Stay in traditional Trulli

"Surrounded by expansive gardens, the property offers both privacy and relaxation, indoors and out. A true home away from home!"

When you think of Puglia, you picture its olive groves, its unspoiled coastline, and its culinary specialties – orecchiette, olive oil, mozzarella di bufala – but also its iconic local buildings: the masserie and trulli. In Locorotondo, nestled in the Itria Valley, lies Trulli del Trappeto, a historic estate where villagers once brought their olives to press into oil. The property is made up of three interconnected buildings: the nine traditional trulli, the old oil mill, and the former stable. With its thoughtful layout, it’s an ideal retreat for a group of friends or two to three families.

Stepping into Trulli del Trappeto, you’ll find a welcoming hallway leading to two cozy bedrooms and a large bathroom. The space opens into a charming dining room, a comfortable living room, and a well-equipped kitchen. From the main trullo, you can access the largest bedroom with its private bathroom on the ground floor. Upstairs, within the former olive mill, there are three spacious bedrooms, each featuring its own en-suite bathroom. Designed to host up to 11 guests, this 300-square-meter estate is ideal for a relaxing holiday in the Puglian countryside, complete with premium services and a pool nestled among fruit trees. Benvenuti in Italia!

In Puglia, the iconic trullo is a masterpiece of local architecture, characterized by a cylindrical base and a conical roof covered in limestone tiles. Constructed without cement, its thick lime-washed stone walls naturally provide coolness in summer and warmth in winter. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, staying in a trullo is a rare privilege—especially when it’s as beautifully restored as Trulli del Trappeto.

During the 2021 renovation, owner and designer Dianne collaborated with local artisans to preserve the building's authentic charm. "The house was in poor condition, with no bathrooms, heating, air conditioning, or pool... Everything has been renovated!" The result is stunning: “The patina of the old mill and the magic of the historic trulli blend seamlessly with modern comforts and thoughtful design. The respect for original historical elements and meticulous attention to detail is apparent in every corner,” says Dianne.

Transformation
of a trullo

Inside, Trulli del Trappeto exudes charm, with its stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and graceful arches complemented by original features such as the fireplace and vintage floor tiles. Dianne thoughtfully curated the furnishings and décor to harmonize with the space. "The décor is an intriguing mix of antique, modern, and bespoke elements, creating a peaceful and warm atmosphere," she shares.

Throughout the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms, a palette of soft tones—ochre, white, and beige—blends seamlessly with natural materials like rattan, stone, and lime. These are paired with artisanal design pieces and vintage artworks, imbuing the property with a distinctive character. The result? A space that feels authentic, inviting, and instantly like home.

Set on a one-hectare estate filled with olive and fruit trees—perfect for picking apricots, pomegranates, or figs—and featuring a stunning pool, Trulli del Trappeto is a haven for relaxation. Those who love lounging will find it hard to leave, while adventurers will be drawn to explore Puglia, the "garden of Italy."

Nestled in the countryside between Bari and Brindisi, this region boasts rolling landscapes, ancient olive groves, and vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see. Rural roads lined with cypress trees and prickly pear cacti guide you to picturesque villages like Locorotondo, where cobbled streets, lime-washed houses, and the iconic cummerse roofs—flat stones arranged in a sloping pattern—create postcard-perfect scenes.

And, of course, no visit is complete without savoring the local cuisine. What better way to immerse yourself than by taking a cooking class with an Italian chef? Learn the art of pasta-making while sipping local wines and indulging in Puglia's culinary delights. Dai!
